New Bronica RF645 section!

yeah...what did happen to it? We have the M8 section...a thread for a specific camera is OK...

Perhaps I'm already converted and didn't know it. Just this evening I plunked down the money and bought an RF645 + 65mm kit.

I had some money burning a hole in my pocket. I stupidly thought I'd buy yet another weird, limited-edition LTM lens but luckily got outbid. Strange that for just a bit more than I was going to pay for that single weird LTM lens I am now getting a fantastic entire MF rangefinder camera AND lens. The RF645 seems to get raves.
 
An absolutely super camera. I was lucky enough to also get all three lenses when I bought it a couple of years ago, and they have produced superb results. It does have its quirks, like the weird vertical viewfinder, but like any besotted lover, I've even grown to like them.

and for good reason. I've never seen sharper negs from any camera, or a more logical design.

I bought a D200 for a trip this week, and I know it was the right thing to do, but it still makes me sick when I think of the RF645 sitting at home.

I, too, have a D200. It's a very nice camera - and much better for shooting sports than an RF645. Though I have used a Mamiya 645 to capture my sons' soccer games. But they were younger and slower then.

I got my RF645 a couple of months ago and I have grown to love it. Got the body brand new from a local camera store and a unused 65mm from New York trough Ebay and last week a found a 45 mm with the viewfinder in Denmark.

Now I just wish for the damn dark winter to go away otherwise I guess I have to start searching for the flash as well.

I bought the RF 645 a couple of years ago, I have been lucky enough to get all 3 lenses. It is an amazing camera. But I remember when I purchased it, many reviewers were comparing it unfavorably to the Mamiya 7. Now it seems that the tide is turning and, unfortunately a bit too late for some, more and more people seem rate this camera as an equal, or a better, camera as the Mamiya. I'm not saying it is a better camera, but is certainly is as good, especially when price is factored in.

Maybe if we keep this thread going long enough, we will get our forum back!

Congratulations to those who have recently found pleasure with the RF645! Sigh of relief for George's retention of his hard-found 100mm too!

I find the vertical viewfinder orientation as natural as horizontal... maybe that's because very early in my photo interests I had a Petri Half-7, a little AE-only half frame camera with focus by guess, with symbols for 3 or 4 basic focus distances. Obviously as a half-frame camera with horizontal film travel it had vertical frame orientation. Since then I've had an Olympus Pen D2 and a few Pen F reflexes, all half frame and vertical. And my RF645 was preceded by two Fuji 645 cameras, so it was not at all a shock to the system!

Indeed, 6x4.5cm is also a "half frame" format, just half of the classic 6x9 format.
 
Welcome to RFF! That'll be a tough one, Plasman, as I expect you know. Not many made, owners happy with 'em, equation comes out expensive and hard to find.

Kind of an odd focal length, though. Figuring about a 1.5x multiplier, the original (and even rarer) 135mm is about the same framing as a 90mm on the 35 format, fairly common. But the 100 is an in-betweener oddball 65mm equivalent. Is it a "long normal" or a "really short tele"? 🙂 Whatever, I do think it makes a nice companion to the "short normal" 65mm lens. More of a walk-around lens than the 135mm I'd guess.
