this is my first post in these forums so bear with me.

im taking a photography class in my college and i went and bought a canon ae-1 with 4 lenses for 120$. i own a canon eos rebel t1i so this was new to me. so i started learning more about camera makes and lenses and found out leicas are super expensive and the bigger the aperture is the more expensive it is. lol. so i wanted a fast lens so i bought a canon fd 1.4 ssc for 55$ on ebay. last wek i bought this.

for 225$ and for not knowing so much about rf cameras i also bought this.

oh this was a very bad buy. =[ i should have made more research because idk when im in focus or when im not because it doesnt couple with the range finder.
so now my question is.
where can which would be a good lens to start off a rangefinder that isnt so expensive?

thanks

a russian jupiter 8 is probably the best bang for your bucks. Contact fedka. at fedka.com at ask him for one that focuses correctly on leica type cameras (russian lenses were made to contax standards).

welcome!
it's nice here:)

re Canon 7: imho, this was a good buy.
re Canon "Lens Mount Converter B": detto.

In Europe you would have paid much more.

Lens: the least expensive ones are the FSU -- former Soviet Union -- lenses like "Jupiter-8", 2/50.

For mechanical reasons, some of them work great with a Canon RF, some of them need some rectification. You'll find here many threads regarding this, search "shimming" or "shim".

Try Hyper Focal Distance method, and you may be surprised at the results with your current lenses.

Also try the Voigtlander screw mount lenses. I have a 50mm f/1.5 Nokton and I am very happy with it. I think they are discontinued but used prices on these are very reasonable. Check the Voigtlander Bessa section of this website for other Voigtlander lenses available in screw mount a.k.a. LTM - Leica Thread Mount.

.. and have fun!

Sorry
Of course there are many other places that carry jupiter 8 lenses. I didn't mean to state that fedka is the only one. No affiliation with him either. Just a happy customer. I should probably have been more clear about that

The 50/1.8 Serenar is a desirable lens, goes well with a Canon 7.

One hint: you might not want to draw attention by posting Auction Links on items that you are bidding on. Invites competition. The "EDIT" button in the post allows modification.

You're a classy guy, Brian.

djbootleg, I'd also keep an eye on the classifieds right here. A Jupiter 3 (the faster and reputedly even sharper cousin of the 8) just sold for $59.

Average sale price over the eight 85mm f/2 lenses sold on eBay this year is $144. 00 usd so your $152 is good seeing you got a full outfit. Peter
