If this is old.. just say so and I'll see if Joe can delete the thread

Doesn't say much other than "Ya.. in 2006 Leica will release a Digital M" so take this for what it may or may not be worth

Dave,
Thanks, I found it very interesting. While we've haggled, in this forum, over some of the information in the article, some of it is new.
-----------------------------------------
"...the electronics design is from an unnamed source which is similar in experience, but not identical, to Imacon."
Panasonic? Kodak?
-----------------------------------------
"I have been told the Digital M will be shown in prototype form at the Orlando PMA in February, and finalized in time for Photokina in the fall of next year."
Photokina I expected - PMA I didn't. I can't wait to see it.
-----------------------------------------
"Oh, and by the way, the price indications I've been given are fairly reasonable too, around $5000. Yes, that's reasonable—for a Leica."
I might be able to save that amount by next year.
-----------------------------------------
"And, frankly, I'm getting too old to lug the huge and heavy Canon 1DsII around town."
Ah, come on Edmund...Ansel was still lugging around an 8x10 view camera when he was older than you!

Not only is he getting too old to lug around his EOS, he's also losing his ability to hear:
"Whereas all SLRs are a bit cumbersome, and noisy due to the mirror slap, the rangefinder is compact and silent."![]()

Come on ManGo.. you know as well as I do that all Leica's are silent.. totally silent...
"Shhhhhh be vewy vewy quiet.. we're using Leicas"

its relativly quiet, since when you walk into a room with a leica, everybody starts talking about how wonderful it is. the sound of the shutter firing is lost in the chaos!

The Edmund guy sounds like he just paraphrased the weeks-old thread at photo.net.
You' d have be a hopeless optimist to believe the $5000 price tag, let alone the 2006 release date.
And if the Zeiss Ikon is vapourware like so many die-hards insist, what should they call the digital M?

Maybe Leica should substitute a unicorn for the red dot on the digital M

The 'electronics from an unnamed source' and the $5000 price point make me very fearful that what we may eventually be seeing is an expensive Panasonic rather than a semi-reasonably-priced Leica. I hope I'm wrong...
