I'm an odd duck: I want vignetting. I want lens flare. But I also want high quality materials and degree of finish as I hate dropping hundreds of dollars on glass that's flimsy. $6-700 purchased 5-6 times vs $2.4K purchased once? To me it makes some sense.
If the preliminary photos are correct and not altered in post, it's attraction to me is that it's so different in character than my 3,8/24mm Elmar. That lens is "perfect" wall-to-wall. To have another lens with the same character that's somewhat less wide would be, well, totally boring.
It's great having a 50 Summicron, 35 Summicron ASPH, and the above mentioned Elmar lenses for what they do. But to add to that mix a 1,5/50 C Sonnar, 40mm/35mm Nokton Classic SC, and a slightly hazy 3,4/21 Super Angulon and now drama is introduced into the repertoire in a way a computer program has yet to match. And I slot this new/old lens in the drama category as Leica has consumers who want Little Drama already covered with the 2.8/28.
And yes, I'll be waiting for the used market.
