new lens(es)

Ok then, here it is. The final design is a bit different as I noticed later that the big cap screws into the small one, making it all a lot easier. There are three parts, the external ring where the 'hood' screws and which is a sort of mini-hood by itself, and the screw-in lens cap, which again screws in the external ring (which pops easily and tightly around the front of the lens barrel of Industar 26, Jupiter 8 and Helios lenses).
You know, summer is time to tamper a bit with plastic, cutters and spray paint 🙂

BTW sorry about the picture quality 😛

looks good oscar!
you might just have a part time summer job if you decide to sell them to us.

well, my first russian lens showed in the mail today, the ld version from vancouver. it's pretty much what i expected from a 10 dollar lens. the glass is clear and unmarked, that's good. the focus is easy if not smooth. it feels a bit loose, like there isn't enough grease in it. the mount, the inner part where the lens threads are is a bit loose so it wobbles a bit on the camera body. it's not as bad as the wobble on my konica s3 but it's there all right.
the real test will be in the pictures of course and that may have to wait till the weekend.
now, only one more package to wait for from the ukraine.

Joe, that looseness of the focus ring you're having is the well known 'curse of the Industars'. The grease used in these lenses degrades easily with time and turns into some kind of wax-like thing, hence the lens barrel has gives tight-loose sensation.

It shouldn't be a problem to test the performance of the lens (I use mine that way), and if in the future you end liking the lens you can take a look at Matt Denton's 'relubing fsu lenses' page and see if you could try that yourself.

It's a pity that construction quality of fsu lenses is so crappy sometimes, they made great glass, but unfortunately sometimes their lens body machining was not to write marvels about...

Hehe, and let me know, I can send you one of my craftmanship hoods if you want one for your new lenses, but better wait until I give them a vignetting test 😀
