New look for RFF

why?

I thought more people were against the change thing.

Gray background is alot easier on the retinas. Prolonged viewing on very high contrast images is unhealthy from an ocular standpoint. The particularly low contrast motif here on RFF has made it a less headachey experience than elsewhere.

on further inspection, I'd have to say I don't like the thread format of this new look. Too much like Dpreview's format. Not as user friendly as our status quo.

Noooooo...........that white background...blue text..the structure and layout......nooooo....

for the love of god...noo.......

Why change format entirely? Also the exteme change of color scheme is a wasted exercise.

What you have now works and is easy on most eyes. Perhaps a little tweaking is fine, but your new proposal is a step backwards. Websites with dark backgrounds are well liked by most and hated by a few. The new website format you propose is 'ok' to almost everyone.

Why are you messing around with an excellent format? Are you planning to sell the forum in the near future?

No!!!!!!!!
This aqua layout absolutely sucks!!

Give us the old black look cos we like to wear black 😉
Seriously, the RFF design is fine as it is. In fact, it distiguishes the place from many other forums.

I would have to vote that you keep it the way it currently is. It feels better organized from the perspective of finding stuff quickly and is definitely much more attractive than the typical template design of the DSLR site.

Personally I prefer the current look of RFF. However the Blue & White probably grates because it is sooo different.

I think the current design of RFF is great and quite unique. Its almost like a brand.

Changing it to the blue design would make it look like just another forum... 😱

Current rf-forum look is excellent! That new version looked horrible...too light colors and the whole style looked like a mixture of i-tunes, windows xp etc. = not good.

how did those hip , happenin' dudes at DslrX cope with the change there Jorge?

Us "traditionalists" over here at RFF will probably ark up more! 😉

FWIW I think this format is fine.

Absolutely NOT! I'd sure hate to have a sleepless night and decide to check the forum at 2 AM and see THAT come up on my screen! That design is too garish and I agree with others..I LIKE your current design just like it is!

I quite like the new look. Sorry 🙂

While I prefer the darker colours over here, the DSLRx theme has less in the way of silly graphics - like the ones around the post headers here which have always struck as a little... well... tacky, I guess. At least on DLSRx all the silly guff is restricted to the top of the page.

But with this kind of thing I prefer very clean and very simple.

Now, if we could have the vB functionality combined with the Pnet look (only dark, like here) I'd be happy 😀

I agree. No change for change sake.

As to the colour scheme, I find the present one easier on the eye but I could get used to the new one. Only trouble is it would make RFF look like many of the other forums and we do have a unique identity. As to the layout, the new one is much better and very uncluttered and I like that. However, what about the sponsers?

If you are making changes, they have been several calls for a "film" forum. The "old" classified's have been dead for a while so that space could be used. If nothing else, it could "sweeten the "pill" of any major change.

Unless there is a economic issue that must be addressed or this one is broken, the old adage if it ain't broke... I love this one, and I hate the other one. I thought about the dSLR forum but the look is hard on my 60 year old eyes, and I don't need the aggrivation.

To be brutally honest I hate the new proposed layout.

Reasons:
1. Black / blue text on white is (IMO) difficult to read and causes eye strain after a while.
2. Our current layout is somewhat unique, the proposed is not.
3. (IMO) B+W images look better against a gray backgound.
4. Why change?
5. From a staw poll of users (from reading the posts to this thread) it looks like the existing layout wins hands down.
6. - ? I am sure others will come up with other valid reasons why the new layout is a non-starter.
