Hello everyone,
I have been reading this forum for several months now and have found it so helpful and so interesting that I thought it was about time that I joined and introduced myself. I have been a Canon SLR user for quite a few years now and have just recently discovered the wonderful world of rangefinders. Though I have only been shooting with the Leica for about 3 1/2 months so far, I am definitely hooked.
My entry into Leica photography was precipitated by the generosity of my father who has just passed his kit along to me. When I think back to my childhood, I have so many memories of my father as a one-eyed man. His second eye seemed always to be hidden behind his M4. And the family has albums full of amazing photographs to show for his efforts.
In recent years, however, my father has moved on to the digital realm. And his Leica has not been getting much use. So he has passed it on to me. As far as a kit to get me started into Leica photography goes, I don't think that I could be much luckier. The body is a black paint M4. The lenses are a 35mm summicron (3rd version), a 50mm summicron (4th version), a 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit (Thin), and a 135mm f/2.8 Elmarit.
I still need to get a good bag. Though the house is absolutely full of camera bags, none of them seem right for the Leica. I am thinking of getting a Domke F-803. However, if anyone can think of a better option for my kit, I would appreciate your suggestions. Also, If anyone has any suggestions for some good reading on Leica photography, I would really appreciate those as well. I just ordered the HCB documentary that has been discussed recently on the forum. I can't wait for it to arrive.
I look forward to being part of future discussions. As I said at the beginning of this post, I have found this forum to be very interesting, entertaining, and informative in the few months that I have been reading it. I am very happy to finally be a member.
