just saw this link posted on dpreview, an image of a GF1, possibly panasonic's upcoming compact m4/3. seems like it could be real, although anything is possible in photoshop and the image is very low res.

the image is about half way down the thread.

It's hard to tell from that image whether or not it has an evf.... if it does, I'll likely buy it.... my first serious digital camera (unless you count my old sony f717 which got stolen years ago).

Doesn't look like it has an EVF, although that hotshoe looks pretty hot...
Flash is there, and that pancake...

I second that. The 20mm f/1.7 pancake MFT was announced a year ago by Panasonic. Still waiting . . .

The image of the back seems to show some kind of connector under the hot shoe, which I imaging may be for an evf... personally I'd prefer if they'd just make this cameras wider and have the evf built in...

button 24?
button 24?
On the parts and control key, they list button 24 as a focus distance reference, but I don't see the readout?
Bigger than an EP-1?

where does this put olympus on the m4/3 map if Panasonic can put out better cameras with more features?

This looks lovely... and if that is a hot-shoe EVF...

I don't understand the focus distance reference either, because 4/3rds lenses have focus by wire controls, so they can't have focus distance indicators. Maybe some indication in the viewfinder via the connector under the hotshoe?

The 45mm lens on the [edit] Left.
Do I read correct: LEICA xxx MICRO-ELMARIT 1:2,xx 45
If the connector is for the EVF, it is my next camera

I'm definitely interested in getting one of these as a companion to my G1.

This is interesting by the paradox. The Ep1 arrives everyone castigates it for not having an EVF, and that's the next Panasonic move. Furthermore the general no grip shape is even more pointing to Ep1 jelousy.
Hence that either we at RFF were downright wrong and the EP1 is a great success and is here to stay and point the way, or Panasonic is doing a strange manouvre.
And if Panasonic is leaving the EVF, this means that used G1s' will be looked after in some time at higher prices, unless another manufacturer surprises like Panasonic did with its G1.
Very strange. Or a joke.
Cheers,
Ruben

By leaving the EVF as a hotshoe option, those who want to use an external optical viewer instead would be able to do that. So for the 21mm, one could get the CV 40mm viewer, no?

I don't really think the target market for either of these cameras really care if there is an EVF or not. Despite the fun factor of adapting old lenses for them, I don't think these will catch on as serious tools.

EVF and flash, ok, but it looks really ugly! Too much similar to my crappy G7.. Bleah! Come on, Panny... Give us something cool, this time!

You mean a full frame 4/3 sensor in a RF (style with EVF) body, at a fraction of the price of a Leica isn't going to be popular? I bet Panasonic are glad they don't employ you.

If it is a removable EVF, that'll be fine by me. I would use the LCD with AF for the 20mm pancake, and add the EVF when attaching Leica M glass (the G1's is very, very, very impressive for mf)...
Best of both worlds IMO...
