I saw part of the set earlier in this finnish magazine "Seura", but there are some nice new photos in this set. I like the second and seventh of the new ones. Favourites are the ice cream photo and that fifth photo.
Nice to see more traditional photojournalism published like these were.

Just to clarify, these are (mostly) American missionaries who are doing their mission work in Finland? As I understand it Finland is largely Lutheran, how do they react to Mormons?
Great series, which is what's making me want to know more.

Very nice photos. While I like them all, the panoramics are especially well done.

Thanks all for your comments.
Yes, mostly they are Americans. I also met Finnish and English missionaries and of course there are missionaries of all nationalities.
Finnish nation is propably one of the hardest places to do mission work... Generally, people are not interested in hearing these kind of things. They say that for example in South America missionaries might do several dozen (or even more) baptizes (baptizements?) during their time in mission, but in Finland...most likely none.
I didn't know anything about these young men before this project and I have only good things to say about them as a human beings. Really nice people.

lol, that would have been me if i kept going to church. retention rates are generally low, and very low in south america. missionaries are more or less tightly controlled by the mission president, very insular, and have little time or freedom to really interact and get to know the community. that's one reason i decided not to go on a mission.

Very good editorial series.
I thought they were discouraged from drinking soda (ie. Coca Cola).

Yes these images are impressive. Reminiscent of Life and Look magazines at their best. Black and white work really works in this genre.
When these people come to my door I'm always a little embarrassed for them. I've never thought of them as a subject.
