New Project

A few weeks ago, I decided to start my first attempt at more structured shooting. I like street photography, but I am afraid there is not much opportunity to be found in a small town along the New England shoreline. I decided to document our small town in Connecticut, and the immediate vicinity.

I'm having fun doing this, and thought I would like to share my modest project with you guys. It's an ongoing project, but here are the first few... 🙂

Thanks, Joe. Thought I'd give it a try. Hopefully, as it warms up, more people will be out in the streets.

Those are great shots! It turned out to be a successful project. Very inspirational!

Good start, Ray! I find it does help to have some focus, so to say -- some coherent idea in mind -- when taking pics! Maybe a second project will come along later, but when you see (by habit now) pics fitting the previous project you'll grab them too! Funny how old projects seem to hang around in your mind... Well, mine do anyway. Have at it! 🙂

Well done Ray, I look forward to seeing more. I look forward to seeing what you do, as I am sure we will/have photographed a lot of the same places.

Got some good stuff there Ray.
I've not been shooting much lately so hopefully I'm out in Manchester tomorrow shooting the VE Day march/celebrations. Doesn't quite sound right that..shooting old soldiers!

Took a couple of shots the other day (believe it or not) of the police and bomb sqaud de-fusing a hand grenade that had been found by workers digging near a gas main! To be honest I was a bit disapointed with the bang!

Good job! Thanks for showing me your part of the world through your eyes!

I prefer the ones with people in them. Is it ordered chronologically by the time of taking the photos or random? I see that the first ones have no people in them, the last ones all do, maybe you get more and more involved in the project and it gives you motivation/courage to shoot strangers, definitely a good point if.

Great job Ray! I'm currently working on a 3-year project with a youth orchestra and it is very helpful both in terms of focus and the direction of equipment purchases. The last one is bad for the wallet but excellent as justification to 'she who must be obeyed' when a faster lens/new camera/big box of film arrives on the doorstep! 🙂

They're random, Pherdinand. I haven't figured out how to re-order the photos in my gallery.

I prefer to have people in photos too. Some of the ones I took without them, like of the docks, were to show a sense of emptiness, as i described.

I'm having a blast with this, and am already thinking other stuff to shoot!
