I don't think it's worth buying a new one, unless your old one breaks. For me, the larger screen and higher write times don't outweigh the swivel screen, and they are certainly aren't worth 500 dollars more.
If I was buying one for the first time, though, I'd probably save up and get a new one.

yup, just that I've read too many stories of 3rd party batteries causing shutter jams or not maintaining capacity as well as the original battery.

Wait until the camera arrives, Joe, it's rather chunky!

I've been alternating my OEM battery with two ebay "Fuji" batteries. No problems/loss of power in 3 years/8000 clicks.

Yes, I know this, but if it's only available there - then it stays expensive. The Japanese price includes a lot of taxes. New cameras are much more expensive in Japan than in the rest of the world.

...All in all it feels like a very minor and rather tepid upgrade, if such a small step after such a long time can be considered as an upgrade at all...
Just like the M8.2!

most 3rd party batteries are 1300mh, some are 1400 and the original is 1500.
i bought 1400 and just hope they work well.

I think this firms up used RD1 prices rather than causing them to go down. The camera lives...this bodes well for service and support. That adds value.

well, no matter the direction the price goes, i have decided to get rid of one of my g1 kits and put it towards another rd1.

battery related shutter jam
battery related shutter jam
I don't believe shutter jams being related to original or other batteries. My shutter froze after a days use of the original battery. The battery was at 2/3 capacity when the shutter froze.
I am expecting the camera back from Steve shortly.
fingers crossed!
And as soon as I get my baby back, trying out the 12 and the 21mm lenses. I've got both the CV and Avenon 21's coming!

The grip or just A grip?
The grip or just A grip?
I may want A grip. Not necessarily The 'G' grip. I will wait and see how the rubber holds out. I got rid of the rubber on the Digilux 2. Don't really want to make the R-D1 bigger than it already is.
