New RD-1x

I'm finding today's threads really interesting - here and over on LUF. I never saw so many people line up to knock down this camera that so many of us love, just because Epson revived it.
According to these people (many of whom have never owned the camera, of course) the IR issue apparently makes the camera nigh-on useless (this accusation comes from M8 users mostly); the batteries suck down "in minutes" (even though I've probably only charged the single battery I have approx ten times the entire year I've owned the camera); and 6MP doesn't cut it (because y'know everyone's apparently shooting for double-page spreads in Vogue these days).

What's more, there are so many instant experts on what Epson's future plans are: my favorite 'prediction' being the one that Epson just want to get totally out of the DRF business... and that's why they got back into it... or something... oh well.

So so much negativity...
 
it never ceases to crack me up -- all those M8 owners who diss a camera just because it isn't expensive enough to merit their interest....
 
this is somewhat good news, SDHD support is a plus. Hopefully it can handle more power efficiently. 6mpx not a bad deal, if it were a fuji super-CCD it be way better, but oh well. I wonder which sony CCD this is based on. Still, not sure it's worth the 2+K, I spent 1600 US on mine, and that was pushing it... I think the m8 would be the next evolutionary move for me, despite the fact I hate the ergo on the camera.
 
so many people buy gear based the the potential of that gear, as if owning it somehow transfers that potential to them.

so naturally, if they par 'sub par' gear then it is assumed that others will see them as sup par also.

it may also have something to do with the size of their penises...

But perhaps it is a forerunner to the digital ZI with a 25Mp full frame sensor. All for the bargain price of £3,000 in the UK🙂

I definitely did not see this one coming.... Epson's full of surprises.
- Nice to see them still in the game... hopefully enough drive for the R-d2
- Batteries..
- Parts
- Support
- Competition is always a good thing

Grip? Mine has been sporting a grip for quite sometime... very comfortable. A little work with a file and drill made the older version of the photo-equip Leica M grip fit the R-D1.

Finally I found a grip for my OMs. All I need is a long tripod screw now ....

And for Joe: try the Color Skopar 28, you know it's my favorite .... I don't own the Epson but have played with one 🙂

That doesn't make sense to me - the new one is targeted at $2k and people seem to still be asking $1500 for the old one. I can't imagine many people wanting to pay so close to new for a 2-3 year old camera.

The warrantys are gone and many have shutter problems, and, of course, the maddening RF problems. So a larger LCD and other small upgrades make the new one the logical choice.

I feel prices for the old versions will be around half the new one as it makes it into the pipeline. But if the sensor proves to be improved as well, then all bets are off.

Of course who knows how many will be produced, so they may be hard to get and that could alter the situation. But if I had a mint RD-1s now, I would try to find someone willing to trade for a modern M-Mount camera with at least 12MP and liveview, like, say, the G1 with adapter!!
