New RFF Under Construction - take a look

The home page will load regardless of the gallery random pictures. In fact, the home page could load and the gallery could take a while to fill in the spot but the home page would already be loaded.

Looking into some settings to address the slowness.

For what it’s worth, I’m still getting notifications every time anyone posts to a thread I subscribed to, even though I turned all my notifications off this morning, every single one, even for the ones I might want.
The ignore function still seems to be not working either. FWIW. I know you’re busy.

Jorge- if you changed something, it worked- MUCH faster now. I also get one row of gallery pictures, not two that showed up earlier today. I like this version.

I recently tried to edit a post in which I had inserted two images. I realized there was a third image that was accidentally left out by me. In the old RFF it was a simple matter to click the "edit" menu option then a window would open with any text previously entered, plus the HTML code for any images linked (e.g. from Flickr) as part of that post. New text could be added or new images added simply by typing or cutting and pasting to the edit box.

In the new RFF when you click "edit' the edit window opens, complete with an actual rendering of the images previously inserted (i.e. not the HTML code). This creates a problem. The way the window presently displays there is no room left between images (if more than one images was linked) or at the beginning or the end of the images (unless there is already so pre-existing text there). This makes it impossible to add an extra image as I wished to do. The only way I could see of achieving it would have been to delete everything and start again. The edit window under the old RFF was much more functional - if you wished to add additional text (in a place there previously was none, say, between posted images or at the beginning or at the end of the post) this was simple - you just added it. Same with the HTML string for any additional images you might want to now add to the post. This no longer seems to be possible.....................
This makes the edit window virtually unusable in certain circumstances - what is the point of having an edit window that does not allow you to add additional content - though I presume content can be partially deleted using that window. It is something that needs rectification as editing is critical functionality.

This morning, i logged in and found three notifications of activity on threads I have been participating in. This one, another (that I can't remember specifically), and the one on the new Pixii II. Trying to see the latest on the new Pixii II thread, I'm encountering the "you are not authorized to see this thread" notice. Hmm. I logged out and logged back in after deleting cookies. Same thing. I've participated in that thread since is came up a week or two ago...

What's up with that?

— addendum —

... And then, after I wrote the above, I went to the list of recent posts in my profile, clicked on the Pixii II thread, stepped to the end, and added another post. Hmm hmm hmmm. Seems some not-quite-perfect interactions with the server database...

IMHO the regional forums can be omitted. At least from the links on the front page.
The BeNeLux forum for instance was last posted to in 2017...

wow, don't visit for a week or so and things have changed. it will take some getting used to as I'm not feeling any of the skins. the older RFF look was easier on the eyes, and navigation. Also may have been a bug but I couldn't advance to older posts, and search function was hit or miss. much preferred the layout (grid) of the previous classifieds, easier to glance at everything for sale.

I miss seeing the number of views for my images at the RFF Gallery. Is it somehow possible to change the settings so that the view counts from the past RFF still show up now?

Done. Views have been updated.

Another gremlin, apologies if it's been raised elsewhere.

Google search hits that link to threads pre-upgrade aren't working.

Eg. I search for 'Ultron Aspherical Summicron ASPH' and this thread comes up in the hits: https://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=167468&page=4

However, following the link gets this error message: 'Invalid Page URL. If this is an error and the page should exist, please contact the system administrator and tell them how you got this message.'

Searching directly through RFF shows that the thread still exists here: https://www.rangefinderforum.com/fo...-35mm-f2-aspherical-vs-summicron-35mm-f2-asph

I don't know if this can be fixed, but it's seriously limiting the value of the RFF archives as a reference resource if links can't be found and followed through Google.

After a few days use, and a few glitches and bugs worked out, the new RFF layout is working well for me. Yeah, I'm sure not everything is "done" yet, but I know I only use a relatively small subset of all the features... If they work the way I expect, and get me to what I need/want to get to, I figure some applause for the hard work is in order.

I can't comment credibly on the rest of the things I don't use. :D

It's been a while since we were using the old layout, but I kind of remember that you could return to the 'home' page from a button at the bottom of a string you were viewing. Right now you need to scroll up to the top to get to the 'home button'. There is this empty space right down at the bottom on the left...

Thanks for your efforts,
Joe
