New bag I picked up for street work from eBay.

Doesn't look like a camera bag.

M 209 B code machine bag

I paid $25 and I think it is perfect.

smaller front pouch is perfect for extra batteries

Does it have real camera bag padding or do you need to insert your own (another $25)?

I had an old domke (circa 1980s) that I long ago pulled the padded bottom out of and I was using it in another bag that I dumped a few years back but I held on to the pad. I cut that down and put it in the bottom and also put a small foam pad in to make the camera sit the way I want it to for easy unobstructed access.

Or you could always get a few of these and put then on the bottom

That looks practical (and looks good, too). Doesn't scream "valuables!".

Is it waterproof? I guess you could paint it with canvas waterproofing if it isn't.

So I've just discovered it's a copy of the M-209-B Cipher Machine Carry Bag, used to carry US Marine cryptography machine in WWII. Cool bag!

Airfrog - do you have a link to the site where you bought yours?

I really like these vertical format field bags. They carry so nicely. I have a smaller one from Eddie Bauer that I added an insert to and it just fits my M. I like the rustic look of yours.

Nice! I like the closures on it: simple and easy to manage. Is this a reproduction or the actual WWII generation item?

It didn't say on the listing either way but I have not seen any repros of this particular bag and it smells old and musty (doesn't really mean much though). It is heavy canvas. If it is a repro it is VERY well done.

Is the backing on the closure made of metal?

IOW, is there exposed metal on the inside of the bag or on the inside of the pocket?

No the metal is not exposed to the inside of the bag. These is a very thin compartment for maybe a small 4 X 5 note pad that is in the front that covers the metal back of the snap to the interior.

I really like the stitching with respect to the strap. Very early Domke, strong. I had an old WWII USArmy canteen and cover that strapped into a belt with those closures. They still work well today and they are quiet (read LOVE THEM!).

Andy's right, does look like a killer bag for a TLR.

Thanks for the proper name Lynnb, it helps when searching out the past.

Very cool Airfrog Sir, thank you for sharing.

Thanks Bill,

I don't know if its tall enough for a rolleiflex?

It looks it as long as you don't have a prism on top. I'm guessing that as the Leica M sits next to it and I think it's about as long as a rolleiflex is tall (I'm more sure about a Yashicamat than a Rolliefelx).
