[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

I have an M3 too, but use the goggled Summaron on that. It is a beautiful camera, you will love it!

Thanks, I tried picking one up last year (and did love it) but the mirror was oxidizing so I returned it. This one is a late serial number 113xxxx and looks like it is in very good shape. Fingers crossed.....

Raid - how long did it take you to receive the lens after Kevin told you it was inspected and ready to ship? Did you get a DHL tracking number right away? I ask you to take some work off Kevin's hands since you recently went through the process.

Kevin has been doing an amazing job facilitating this project.
Giving updates when you need to and checking each of the lenses to verify they meet quality, mine is also going back for aperture ring adjustment but I'm in no rush of any form.

Pretty happy with the #s that I got as it is my and wife's day of birth and engraved is our daughters DOB so this lens will definitely stay with the family.

There was an initial email from Kevin in which he informed me that he sent the lens back for some cosmetic changes. Then, weeks later, I was informed that the lens was sent from China by DHL.

For me after Kevin checked out my lens to his satisfaction he sent me a DHL tracking number and the lens was delivered in 3 days from China to the USA.
He is very thorough and pleasant to deal with.

Something is moving - maybe..

I believe this is not the mass production final product. I think there is no anti-oxide special coating on this specific copy.

I talked to the factory manager in last month that I will personally buy their final product in brass. So I will be in the first group of people who will receive the brass version lens with the coating that they believe could last long enough.

Currently, they are still testing the coating. Letting it sit for at least a few months to see the result.

Hey guys, I took some crappy photos with my cheap and flinty Summicron Replica 35/2. I was showing my flinty lens to my friend and I took it out of the camera - duh - and light leaked into the film in one of the frames. Doh! Anyway I haven't scanned these right, I must be tired and can't be bothered with getting the shadows right. Also, this day was FREEZING cold and the light was muted. My cheap and nasty flinty Replica could not save them.

Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful film photos, Jose. I like your photos as always!

I had a chance to test different versions in brass, amber coat, purple coat and the original summicron. Will make another post soon to compare these versions with Tri-x.

PS I am still on the waiting list hopefully can get mine from Kevin soon🙂

Great site. I enjoyed browsing through the contents. And thanks Erik for sharing the link.

I saw this too, it is a great write up 🙂 thank you!

As you say the V2 is coming it seems so hopefully more lenses to go around soon 🙂.

Does anyone know the difference? According to the markings (V2LC) I think it is the same glass as the V1, so I am curious if there is a difference or if the V1 we are getting/waiting for are just the first batch for export that Kevin has kindly managed to secure for us before the glass runs out...

Regarding the emergence of v2 lenses, Mr. Zhou explained that many of the first 500 sets of lens groups had been scrapped during the production process. Therefore, nearly 1,000 sets of lenses need to be additionally produced to fill the gap. In later orders, the v1 and v2 front rings may appear mixed. The actual production is in no particular order. V1 and V2 could be produced at the same time. The quality will be the same.

The bottom line is, they will complete all 500 lenses in the first batch. Price won't change.

Kevin

Here is the answer. I believe if the V1 V2 lenses produced at the same time period, their quality should be the same. Same glass, same coating. Just different markings.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin! Sorry if I missed the answer in the 69 pages 🙂. Do you think this will always be a low volume lens, or eventually will they become a high production item easy to get in shops?

Interesting, mine has the amber coating (which matches the coating on my M4's finder). Can't remember the coating on my 50 Rigid at the moment (don't have it on me) but I think it's amber too.
