[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Love your choice of engraving!

Ha ha Shawn... similar day for me!

I was expecting the replica today so when the doorbell rang I sprinted to the door in case Mr DLH decided that nobody was home and tossed the package over the garden gate.

Turns out it was not DHL, but USPS with a delivery of some Double XX, which I had ordered to use with the LLL lens. No sooner I unpacked the film that this lovely thing showed up too!

The lens is very well packaged and includes a small carry pouch, a presentation case (as we have seen on many pics already), and a few lens wipes.

It's already at home on my camera and ready to go shooting...too bad I still have a few frames of Fomapan loaded that I thought I would be able to burn through over the weekend, before the initial estimated delivery date of Monday... Damn you DHL and your teutonic efficiency!

It's in the UK, having had but a brief stopover in Leipzig (a minute according to the tracking) and is but a mere 200 miles from me. Now if only it wasn't the weekend. Oh, and yes, I got up early to check.

I really wish I could compare how it feels to my original 8 element. In terms of the click when it locks. The clicks of changing the aperture and the ease of focusing. How close are these things when compared to a original? Is the sound of the click when it locks the the same as the original?

Glad to hear some people have received the lens and enjoying using it.

I returned the order form on 12/12/2019 but still haven't received any notification. I sent Kevin an email afterwards and nothing was returned to me either. I suppose he must be very busy so it's understandable.

Are there other people in the same situation? Returned the order form, but no way to order?

I'm surprised to see how much this thread has grown since last time I visited it. Unfortunately I don't have the time to go through every post or every page due to my work. If someone who has been following the thread could give me a update, it would be greatly appreciated.

@froyd great to see f8 + there looks so good on the silver. Mine, with the same serial text in black is still in the queue, but seeing yours confirms that my idea for the text looks great in the metal.

I too will be pairing mine with a CV 50 2.5 most of the time I think, and hope they will complement each other well from a design size and rendering perspective.

To summarise Ulrich - if you returned the google docs form, Kevin has your details and preferences for the lens. As can be seen, the number of lenses being made available is increasing, but they are coming in batches. When Kevin has notification of the batch including your lens being produced, he will get in contact to re-confirm your specification, to deal with money and shipping.

When the lens is checked and approved by him he'll let you know it's on its way.

He's working as quickly as the first batch lens availability allows.

I received the order form back on 9th of Dec, but no news since then...

As of 4 hours ago it arrived at the local hub, but a mere 40 miles from me. It being the weekend, there it shall sit, until Monday, thus proving the shortest is always the longest!

I'll gorge on others' fine photos in the meantime!

Nothing terribly interesting but from my M3s test roll these two shots show the vignetting at f2 clearly.

Thank you for the summary, Charles. Before revisiting the thread, I thought the project had failed because I heard nothing after having submitted the order form.

I see some other people are ahead of me. Like them, I'll be waiting patiently.

You ordered late...like me..
I'm not sure why you will think this lens will arrive anytime soon...
As the 1st orders are just appearing..and there are 500 to be made in the 1st batch..with just a few being delivered here and there..

Whilst at the same time..they are probably making the 2nd version as well..
Further extending the process..
