[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Thanks so much Raid. My initial descriptive thoughts were simply intended to reassure those waiting for their lens, that the wait is most definitely well worth it. Those posting images like yourself have really brought this lens to life.

*** I should add what might be a bit helpful for those receiving their lenses and waiting on a hood. As mentioned in my previous post, my lens is chrome color. I went through my misc. drawer and found a inexpensive generic silver 39mm vented hood and also a slightly older Leica 39mm silver UV filter. Both were screwed onto the lens and the Silber hood is a near identical match to the len's finish.

I then found a both a Voigtlander and Zeiss 43mm center squeeze lens cap. The reason for 43mm is it fits the ridges inside the hood half way down, just below the vents. It works perfectly and much better than if I had tried a center squeeze 39mm lens cap which would be far too inside the hood to use effectively. The generic hood can be found easily on line and I'm sure the same for a 43mm center squeeze lens cap.

Somewhere I have to dig out the correct Leica hood and cap but this arrangement is faster and more compact to use while shooting.

It would be interesting when the 500 are all done to see how we all went with regard to choice of silver or black Finish. . My guess is more black than silver were ordered.

Because the lenses seem to be produced in a batch of 12 in one finish at a time the date we ordered them may not be the date in the queue.

Going by date of RRF posts back in this thread, I ordered a black lens with F8 + there serial before Froyd ordered his silver one with the same serial text. The silver has been delivered before the black, as part of a batch.

Though somewhere in this thread (which must have the RFF record for the most posts in the shortest time) I recall Kevin mentioned that the serials (not the finish) are chosen randomly when the order for a batch goes in.

Congrats to the new owners and thanks for the ongoing images. Continuing thanks to the manufacturing team and Kevin. Good things come to those who wait!

Watched your video and could totally feel and share your excitement. Congrats!

I got my lens yesterday! Thank you, Kevin!!! It's a tour de force of mechanical and optical craftsmanship. What a journey it's been to get this stunning lens.

I uploaded an unboxing video, and all I do is repeatedly babble "oh my god," "wow," "holy crap!" and "precision."

Going for a walk with a roll of Tri-X ASAP!

Yes, love the colors. Thought it might be the M9 (which I use). I didn't guess the RD-1 as it's been a long time since I used one.

Thanks! Never had a M9 but I do have the Epson. I did some side by side shots and then tried to match its look on the M240 and made that a preset. These are the files at default in LR.

So there is a 2nd batch with flint glass being sold through other outlets?

Just a point of clarification, I don't believe this lens is available to the "public" yet as in you still have to go directly through someone like Kevin or Wen to buy it. Wen said he is working as one of Mr. Zhou's distributors. However, you can also preorder the 3rd batch from Breguet Camera HK at a steep price of $1188 + shipping. They claim it will take 2-3 months to ship. So that may currently be the most public way of getting hold of this lens through a shop. And I misspoke in the video about the price of the first batch, it's $499. So no $599 variant exists in the public.

So I assume from this..that they are already selling the 1st version to the public for $100- more...
Whilst putting us RF $499-ers... out to...hang and dry...and twist in the wind..
Thats even worse..lol..

Perhaps Kevin can shed some light on this..clear this up...
Sounds like a story of over promising..and under delivering..

I agree, production seems completely out of order and they are taking orders beyond what they can produce.

It would have been nice..if they made and completed shipping the 1st batch 500 limited edition in flint...and then...
...made and completed the 2nd batch...in whatever..
Then 3rd etc..
Instead of..where is my 1st batch lens?
While dealers are selling out..to whoever ponies up the cash for later versions..
While leaving the 1st version flint guys...hanging..
Month after month..
But a few seem to be dribbling in here and there now..
So there is still hope..

I filled out the form for a Chrome model on 12-09-19 around 8pm and am still waiting in line. Hopefully that helps calm some inquiring minds. Im sure they will get to us...try to remember this is just a few people running a boutique operation at this point. Kind of nice we get in on the ground floor of it.

The lions share of people on the list for the first 500 lenses are domestic buyers, not RFFers. RFFers are only a small share of the total, of which an even smaller share have already received a lens.

Dude take a chill pill already. Firstly, you haven't paid out any cash and secondly, there's abundant evidence in this thread that you will get your lens eventually AND at the bargain price of $499.

To reiterate what I posted some weeks ago, RFFers are only a small share of the total in the first batch, of which an even smaller share have already received a lens, so there's more progress being made on the first batch than you can judge based on this thread alone. To give you an idea, I've seen photos of V1 lenses posted on Chinese social media showing serial numbers 293/500 and 422/500 (among others).

In my work life, I've had to source items from manufacturers in the PRC.
Transparency has not been their strong suit. Neither has reliability as to what is actually being shipped. I learned to trust only a few, and then still to a point.

Emile makes valid points and the "shrug" as to whether it comes or not, justifiable.
