[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Hey guys, I took some crappy photos with my cheap and flinty Summicron Replica 35/2. I was showing my flinty lens to my friend and I took it out of the camera - duh - and light leaked into the film in one of the frames. Doh! Anyway I haven't scanned these right, I must be tired and can't be bothered with getting the shadows right. Also, this day was FREEZING cold and the light was muted. My cheap and nasty flinty Replica could not save them.

Lovely photos Teddy! I just shot some Adox CMS20 II and developed it in TMAX. Rated it at iso 6 and it looks good. Will scan it today.

Will be good to see Huss! This winter has been gloomy in one end, and ultra high contrast at times - I find the Australian light quite harsh in the winter and perhaps CMS20ii was the wrong film to use around this time.
 
Teddy, I was going to ask you & Huss about that. I've only used CMS20 on one occasion and i was not at all happy with how high contrast the results were. Have either of you used it enough to find a way to tame the contrast?

Hi there Deardorff38, I should have noted that what I use to tame the contrast with Adox CMS 20ii, is I expose the film at ISO 6. For development, I use Rodinal @ 1:200 dilution for 60 mins. I agitate extremely gently.

This winter, I found that it was difficult because the contrast was extreme. We've had very cold days in South Australia and I live at the lowest point in a valley so it gets very cold. And on the other extreme it has been very gloomy overcast and this film needs lots of light. At ISO 6, you will be exposing comfortably hand held in 1/60th sec at f2.8 in sunny but cloudy conditions.

Have you tried it in Adotech? For me it works quite well.

Thank you for your comments Teddy, Huss & Valdas. I've come to the quick conclusion that it's not a film for me. I'm not willings to trade that much tonal range for fine grain. Huss' photo looks good, but it's also not entirely a wide tonal range....the subject matter works there. What I'm seeing is what was described with Kodak tech pan as "a distinct loss of tonal range and a bunching of shadow and highlight detail." I wish i could get my hands on some Adox Silvermax 100 for comparison. What I was really after, was to see if the film could replace Agfapan 25. I find neither Adox 20 nor Ilford Pan F versatile enough tonally, to be that replacement for me.

That's cool Deardorff38, it's not my #1 film either, it's good to have once in a while if you want that "Pictorialist" look in photos on 35mm. My favourite films in this order are: Tri-X, Acros, Fomapan, Pan F 50.
If these were available it would be Plus-X... That's it!
Orwo films are very close to Plus-X I find.
 
Heard from Kevin that my lens passed his tests. This will be shipping to me soon.

Good luck with the M2! I have a M3 on the way and will try it on that even though it won’t be ideal with the built in finder.
