[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Looks like we'll have a fresh wave of replica pics soon! There's one in particular I'm looking forward to posting in response to one of Erik's earlier posts....

Excellent news for you, Charles. Prepare a welcome party for the replica!

Having just paid the import duty and value added tax, it will be a paper hat and sausage on a stick type party, but the lens has been picked up from Kevin in Shanghai (where my great grandfather served with the China Squadron of the Royal Navy at the beginning of the 20th century - how the world has changed) and is listed as due for delivery on the 28th.

Good day today. I ordered a used MR meter from B&H that was listed as is with a jumpy needle for $29. Figured it would just need the contacts clearned. It arrived today and is (I think) a MR4 and it works fine (matches my Luna Pro Digital) and is in great shape.

While playing with that USPS dropped off a package....

Initial impression is just "Wow!!" Packaging alone is fantastic for any price, let alone what these are selling for.

I figured the case was going to be paper or plastic, it is solid metal and built well. Back cap is the nicest I have, (and Kevin includes a plastic one too so it can stay awesome. Even had a microfiber cloth as well as a neoprene pouch for it all.

Then you get to the lens, it is a solid dense object. Love the infinity lock on it.

Congratulations Shawn. It's a thing of beauty!

Thanks!

For anyone that uses a protective filter the Fotasy 39mm Silver Ultra Slim UV Protection Lens Filter fits well and is a very close color match without adding much size to the lens. The JFOTO Qs-C Metal Silver Lens Cap Front Cover for Leica L39 E39 39mm Summicron also fits well with the filter on. The original cap is heavy and I don't want to potentially lose it.

Ha ha Shawn... similar day for me!

I was expecting the replica today so when the doorbell rang I sprinted to the door in case Mr DLH decided that nobody was home and tossed the package over the garden gate.

Turns out it was not DHL, but USPS with a delivery of some Double XX, which I had ordered to use with the LLL lens. No sooner I unpacked the film that this lovely thing showed up too!

The lens is very well packaged and includes a small carry pouch, a presentation case (as we have seen on many pics already), and a few lens wipes.

It's already at home on my camera and ready to go shooting...too bad I still have a few frames of Fomapan loaded that I thought I would be able to burn through over the weekend, before the initial estimated delivery date of Monday... Damn you DHL and your teutonic efficiency!

I dreamed about a set like this for years! Two great performing small brass lenses of 50mm and 35mm, Leica M mount, black painted, with fixed hoods and caps and of the highest mechanical and optical quality.

Typically, neither of them is made by Leica.

Color Skopar 50mm f/2.5 by Cosina and 35mm f/2 by LLL.

Erik.

Erik- I was waiting patiently for my lens to come in to say that:

a) you are absolutely right!
b) chrome lenses have more fun 😛
