New travel photos - Sigma 30 + Oly 45/1.8

The very sober, documentary style of your photos and the emotional text you wrote are very interesting together. I like the melancholy in the pictures but I think it only comes out when one reads the text first. If I had only seen the pictures without your thoughts I think they may seem a little random. But that changes when one looks at the whole thing.

The piece and the photos convey a profound loneliness or dislocation. The absence of people is striking. I like it as personal reportage.

Thanks Thomas and zuikologist!

I kind of like my photos coming across as "sober, documentary style," since I always worry that I am way too nostalgic and romantic... interesting difference in how they are seen! :)

I have always had a problem with people not being able to identify with my photos when that is all they see. It was confusing at first because the few people that did see what I was doing really respond strongly (once a grown man cried after looking through my portfolio).

Anyway, putting up this website has given me a real outlet for my shorter essay writing and mixing it with my photos. Obviously, the photos aren't illustrations for my writing, but I think of them as separate pieces joined together by being done by me... coming back around the same thing from different directions.

So, again, thanks for the support and thanks for following what I'm doing!

Best!!!
