Well, I received my second M8 today I need for backup, and everything seems to be fine. I tested the camera at all ISO's and no sensor issues at all. Camera is in like new condition of which I paid $2,350 for. The only issue I see is focus is slightly off which will require a rangefinder adjustment. I live in Allentown PA and Leica NJ is not far at all, and I have had work done there before to my satisfaction.

I have not had Sherry Krauter adjust my M's in awhile. Anyone know if she adjusts M8 rangefinders? If not, Leica NJ will be fine. I have had my M8 since new in 07, and the rangefinder is still fine. The one I got is newer and was purchased by the original owner in 2009. Warranty should still apply.

DIY job?

DIY job?

Funny thing here is I am mechanically inclined (I work on my car, computer, have taken apart the focus mount on my 35mm Summicron and lubricated it) and I do see some M8 owners, or M in general, have adjusted the rangefinder themselves. Here, my horizontal alignment is slightly off, and from what I have read it only requires a special allen wrench that one places very lightly in the center of the wheel that hits the edge of the lens for focus. I heard you have to be careful and not push or apply any pressure, but just lightly turn the wrench for adjustment. Anyone here done this and what type of wrench would I need?

Another thing: This is the only M I have ever had that needs a rangefinder adjustment. I have an M6 since 1991 and it is still fine, as are my other M8 and M4-2. This new (used) one needs a little tuning but seems fine otherwise.

Sherry doesn't work on M8s. I asked her and she said no. I needed rangefinder adjustment as well and I ended up sending it to DAG for RF alignment as well as 6bit coding of my lens.

Post this in the Brian S. mad gear-head scientist. He may give you a quick walk through on a DYI for horizontal adjustment. I don't think you need a special tool for that. There is a special tool for vertical adjustment Leica charges $200 something for it. I bought one from Mr Zhou for 1/4 the price and it worked perfectly.
