NEW Voigtlander SLII 40/2 & 58/1.4

There is always the Konica 60/1.2 if you want that focal length. 😉

i may have missed something but having had a quick look around tonight i don't see the 58 in M mount or anything native to Bessa cameras. is this an anomolie? 58 seems a great focal length.

thank you. i did a search and found nothing on ebay. i'll put it in the back of the shelf and remind myself another time to look for one.

if the 58 is for SLR cameras i have an original F2A from the 1970s, will it fit that? i am not that familiar with the Nikon mounts other than the one i have lenses for from then. i have mostly only ever shot with RFs. i see on this forum there are many cameras in my past perhaps i should have kept. cameras were only tools when i started out and i wasn't so keen on having a lot of mechanical clutter around me but now that i am retired and still shooting i can see that some of the old cameras would be good to have kept. i am just getting a fuji GW-6x9 which i think will add a new dimension to my collection of shoeboxes of photos.

I have the new Ultron SLII 40/2 which I believe is functionally similar to the 58/1.4. I also have an F2. As with all later Nikkor lenses, these two will mount on all Nikon bodies. However they do not have the "rabbit's ears" like earlier Nikkors and I thought that would mean that the F2 will not meter with them. But I just mounted the 40 on the F2 for the first time and the meter seems to function normally.

thanks, mister wotalegend. i may look into this a bit more, then. i like my F2A. i get to melbourne a bit and visit camera exchange in the downtown city when there. do they have this lens, maybe? i can enquire next time, which i think may be februar.

40 f/2 in K mount

40 f/2 in K mount

I think i may have answered my own question, but here goes:
the info on CameraQuest says KA mount but I don't see any A on the lens; for the Nikon AIS the lens is set to f/22 and aperture is controlled by the camera. Does anyone know if it's the same process with Pentax K mount?

I'm especially interested in the 58 f/1.4 when it comes out in K mount. But, I could do the 40 til then😉

Yes, the CV KA lenses have "A" settings allowing the camera body to set the aperture. I forget where, but when I was looking I did find a photo somewhere confirming the A on the lens.

The A setting is set on the aperture ring. There is a push button lock and it is one click below the smallest aperture. The Nikon version is the one usually pictures and so it doesn't show.

Pentax KA 58/1.4's

Pentax KA 58/1.4's

The Pentax mount 58/1.4's will be arriving next week.

As reported on my website, Cosina's R&D deptartment has not quite yet ironed out all the issues with Mr. K's NoctNoct lens:

"Alas, the long rumored Voigtlander SL II 4-10,000/f.7 SuperSizedNoctNoct lens is not yet ready for the marketplace. Unconfirmed reports say the megalens was blown over by high winds, unfortunately destroying Nagano's 1998 Winter Olympic Stadium."

Wider CV SLII lenses please

Wider CV SLII lenses please

For my digital 'fix', I use a Nikon D40x. I've been having fun using a couple of older Nikkor manual focus lenses (50/2 Ai and 28/2.8 Ais). Its been nice getting back to basics. But it would be nice to try out the D40x's meter. And then I saw that Cosina is putting out the SLII line of lenses!! Hooray!

Now, it would be REALLY nice if they'd build one of those in the 28mm to 35mm (film equivalent) range. The 40 and 58 are just a bit too long (60 and 87mm equivalent) for street photos. Anyone know if Cosina has any such plans? Stephen?

3) SLII lenses are so far announced only in Nikon AIS (with metering matrix chip) and Pentax KA mounts. Voigtlander did produce the now discontinued 125/2.5 in manual focus Canon EOS and Minolta AF mounts, with the needed metering chips. Unfortunately neither sold well, so it remains to be seen if Mr. K will make more lenses in those mounts.

for what it's worth, i'll buy both these lenses if cosina releases them in eos mount.

EOS mount Voigtlander lenses are possible, but unlikely. Unfortunately the earlier EOS mount 125's did not sell well when in production. Now they are almost impossible to find and high priced when you do.

As mentioned on my site, some first production run of 58/1.4 SLII in Nikon mount (not Pentax KA) had over exposure problems by about one stop. This was corrected for the 2nd production run (in stock).

If you are having over exposure problems with a first production run Nikon 58/1.4 SL II you bought from CameraQuest on a digital or AF Nikon camera, just return it so I can ship it back to the factory and have it adjusted.

Thanks

Stephen

Aren't SLRs evil?

yes, they are.

i, for one, am not categorically opposed to doing a deal with the devil. the thing to remember in the devil's bargain is that while every soul is worth saving, at least to a priest, not every soul is worth buying. (burroughs) so if you think you might one day consider wielding the mighty evil powers of slr then do it while still have something to bargain with: youth, influence, etc. don't leave it until it's too late when you have nothing left to bargain with; you'll be left without a soul but with a big heavy camera lacking in diabolical magic.

Neither of those two models specifically, but I have used my 40/2 on a D100 and a D1X. In terms of lens compatibility the D100 is less capable than the D200 or D300 - it won't meter with AI-S lenses. But the 40/2 works fine, albeit with an angle of view equivalent to a 60mm lens on a 35mm film body. The 40/2 (and presumably also the 58/1.4) is mechanically and electronically equivalent to an AI-P Nikkor, of which I believe there was only the now discontinued 45/2.8. I bought the 40/2 mostly to breathe new life into my F75 body, which has the same lens compatibility issues as the D100. The combination of F75 body with the small 40/2 lens is almost as small, light, and unobtrusive as an RF camera, although the motor drive adds a bit of extra noise.

Ultron SLII 40 f2 v Nokton 40 f1.4

Ultron SLII 40 f2 v Nokton 40 f1.4

I realize most people wont own both lenses... but I was wondering if anyone has seen any comparisons between these two? Tried a few searches, and obviously both are highly regarded, but couldn't seem to find any direct comparisons. I would particularly be interested in bokeh and centre sharpness. Any thoughts? I know we aren't exactly taking apples to apples but interesting I think nontheless. Thank you.

Anybody tried these lenses on a Nikon D200/300?

I have a voigtlander 58mm 1.4 for my Nikon D200 - after breaking my old 85mm 1.8 lens ..... OT that useless bit of plastic fell 2 foot onto heavy carpeted floor and all the aperture blades fell loose internally. Now some sort of weird kaleidoscope.

58mm 1.4 is difficult to focus on D200 AF screen - it wasn't designed for manual focus I guess. A bit of trial and error ... what looks sharp TTL is different (slightly from what the focus indicators say) and at 1.4 this matters ..... getting better though but screen is not like the manual Nikons of old.

SLR Color Skopar 20/3,5

Hi,
I have noticed Cosina is launching new SLR lens. I am considering it to my Pentax k10. Has anybody tried that? Is it worth 400 EUR?

regards
Jacek
