Like your site, it's neat - I like the idea of photo stories, I've embraced the idea to support some of the marketing work that I do professionally. Your site's a little slow for me, but I'm in North America.

Photos wise - I like the overall feel of the sets I looked at - each shot to me captures what it's like being there which is very difficult to do. I'm thinking in particular of the claustrophobia and crowds of my last weekend's visit to Ikea, and your pictures nailed it.

Also would like to hear opinions concerning that sites backround -- that dark/black concrete (or asphalt) thingy... Some have said that that dark backround is too "powerful" ...takes away the attention from the photos and the rest. Any opinions about that?

Thanks again! I like that Jussi's "My Father" set too...his father is extremely photogenic.

For scanning I currently use Nikon Coolscan V (some of my stories's images have been scanned with crappy old Canon flatbed scanner) and Jussi uses Konica Minolta scan dual 2 or 3 (don't remember...) with Vuescan. For films I have used ADOX chm 400 for the past 2 years for B&W and that minimal color I have used has mostly been that basic Fuji superia 400 (or digital gear I borrowed from work). Jussi's work is a mix of film and digital, but for a long time he has been using mostly film...I am not exactly sure what film, but I know that most of his color and B&W essays have been shot with the cheapest (and often/usually outdated) Agfa Vista colour negative you can find...and B&W is done in photoshop that is.

Personally, I think most of the pics blow the big one. Way too much visual nonsense (no potential whatsoever). Get a grip... loose the dialogue... then carefully edit the pics.

Thanks for your comment as well. We really don't mind negative critique as well.

But just to clarify, those two frames you pointed out are just pictures to illustrate the written text in the blog but the real main idea of strap photos is in those whole essays / stories -- and that is most definitely something where we put our minds in! Editing is a VERY big part of the whole process and I would say that there is a justification for every single image to be in those sets... I personally sometimes leave the "best" shots out of the set because often it happens that it does not fit to the whole. But, of course: matters of opinion / taste 🙂

If you strap guys are looking for honest criticism, than I would be more than happy to send you a more in depth critique of your work.

Sure, in depth critique is always welcomed! I speak for myself, but I am positive that Jussi feels the same. Too bad that option for commenting straight to our blog had to be removed due to some serious spam problem...

On my own behalf; to be honest, I very rarely alter anything that I do based on "normal" negative or positive critique that I get on these photography based websites (fix that, fix this etc.) BUT every once in a while you get some seemingly small but honest comment about some small detail that opens your eyes to something little, some small thing you haven't noticed before and that affects to all your new work. So therefore all comments and all critique is welcome -- changes are that nothing won't change, but you never know 😉
