I bought this camera over Thanksgiving. I learned the settings and took a first walk to take some "real" photos this morning at sunrise.
With Pen-F 25/F4:

Isn't it amazing when people make images that look wonderful with the same camera that I use to produce 'suck'? :( Congrats and great pics, goamules!

goamules - Nice pics, love the windmill and the tones of colors on the metal against the sky!

Snowbuzz, I think that is common with all cameras and all devices of any kind. There are going to be some people who the device just does not like and goes out of its way to produce bad images or break or misbehave. I had a Nikon point and shoot years ago that I just could not produce a good image from no matter what I tried. I even had it replaced in store thinking it was defective and Nikon sent me a replacement after the problems persisted.

We have a saying on another non-photo forum...

"Technology hates (insert persons name)." - Usually that's my name in there. :D I still have a few cameras that just do not like me so I don't shoot them. Obviously goamules has no problems with his new X-E1 as it seems to be making lovely photos. :D

Trust me, MOST of my shots aren't any good. But I'm learning. I shoot LF and wetplate a lot, maybe that's starting to help.

I saw PEN lenses and had a real brain fart moment when I thought to myself:

"I wonder how awkward it was to use the EVF vertically so the PEN lenses work right".

I'm just gonna go sit in the corner.

Glad to see these! I sold my PenF/50-90 this fall, but kept the 25 2.8 and 40 1.4 to use with the XE1, which they fit very very well, being light and small--but was brooding this week "I have too much gear, I ought to sell xyz"(including these lenses).

Thanks for a reminder why I kept and still should keep them! Going to mount a fast 60 (the 40 1.4) now for the low light.

I will be listing a few adapters soon, though--one for Pen lenses on Nex, one for OMZ lenses on Pen...

good stuff, the 25mm f4 is a perfect lens for street photography on the x-e1 and landscape on the pen f..... i wouldn't know about the 50-90 but i heard it ended up being the basis for a OM lens later.

I've liked the 25/4 for a long time, shooting it on m4/3. When I planned to buy the X-e1, I figured the PenF lenses would work great, and so far, so good. They have an amazing sharpness, good contrast, and like you say, are small and light. The first night I put my Nikkor LTM 50/1.4 on the cam, but that's a very heavy chunk of glass. And finally, after years of shooting m4/3, I can shoot a 35mm equivalent without breaking the bank.

For my afternoon walk down to the desert spring, I took the 38/1.8.

^^^here's an earlier rff thread on Pen focal length equivalences to FF (where you multiply them x1.4). But for APS-C, we just stick to the 1.5x. So a Pen 25 should = approximately 37mm, just as the native XF 23mm = 35mm.

If I'm wrong, don't throw eggs. Last time my math skills exceeded my verbal skills was the SAT test in 1970.

Ha! Yeah, I heard you multiply the lens focal length by 1.53 to be precise. So the 38mm PenF becomes a view like a 58mm. I'm basically just figuring I "step down" one normal 35mm film size, to get approximately the same view. So the 38mm is my Normal, the 25mm is my wide. I've never figured out people that say they want an 18mm, but then need a 20mm too. They are so close, that's what your feet are for.

ah...lessons in math, another way i found to be quite quick (to do in my head compared to the x1.5 rule for the crop sensor) is to divide the number by 2 and then add it to the focal length of the lens im using on the x-e1.

for example,
25/2=12.5,
25+12.5=37.5mm for FF equivalency
