Did we settle on a time and place for the January meet-up?
Did any of you make the Leica S-System & Mark Mann event last Wednesday, (December 18)? It was a great holiday party sponsored by Leica. James Wagner, the Leica National Sales Manger said that he had not heard about this group's meet-ups, and I will email him and encourage him to drop by one.
I think that it is great to share work, but I am not sure that we want to call it "critique of each others work". That starts to impose a level of rules, standards, and organization which I think that group lacks and/or tries to avoid. That is a characteristic of this group which I personally value. For example, RangeRover asked "Would Digital prints be okay??"
So how about we continue to share work on a non-judgemental basis. There are plenty of formal portfolio review opportunities (or rip-off ego trips depending on your view point.) I personally like to keep the sharing non-judgemental, sharing, and encouraging. I would rather see a print exchange based on a names drawn from a hat for those bringing prints and that want to participate.

I'm looking forward to attending my first NYC meet up, but might shy away from bringing prints, mostly because I have no access to printmaking equipment... Assuming that'd still be kosher?
Yes, you can even show up without a camera if you'd like.

The place that I mentioned in passing it the Half King Retaurant/Bar at 505 West 23rd Street (11th Ave.) in Manhattan on the West Side. The M23 Crosstown bus (westbound) stops right in front of the HalfKing. They have a room in the back that seats between 15 to 20 people. I stopped by yesterday, and spoke with Albert, one of the managers. He said that if we called, and the room was not previously reserved, they would be glad to reserve it for a group such as ours on a Sunday afternoon. I am not much of a beer connoisseur but it seems like they have a large selection on tap.

If the group ever wanted to use this facility, we would have to designate or have someone make the call to reserve the place.
I have no personal interest one way or the other. The reference to the gallery was about the fact that they usually have a photo exhibit in the main dining room, and not necessarily a place to view prints for the group.

Folks, I will not be able to make the January meetup after all. My girlfriend will be returning from Nigeria that day and I will be going to Kennedy Airport to pick her up. (She is there for her daughter's wedding, which happens on January 4th). Sorry, my black paint M2 will not be attending either. Please let me know how it goes and when the date (and location) for the February meetup will be. I will miss you guys. Russell

Last year was a good year and I expect 2014 to be a great year. As the storm approaches it is likely that I will not be at work for a while as I will be taking off work next week to avoid the coldest week of the year.
GEAR ALERT: I bought a late black version of the Canon 28/3.5 in LTM. I owned the earlier chrome version in the past, but lost that lens in a trade. Well the 28/3.5 renders very well on the Monochrom with amazing wide histograms that kinda nails nine zones of contrast without the use of filters for compression. One source says that only 1765 black versions of this lens were ever made. This lens is slightly longer than the chrome version, but it has better ergonomics, and remains smaller than my 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM.
