Newbie needs help

I need help to rectify this problem i'm facing,
i would really appreciate it if someone could tell me where did i go wrong with this pic and point me in the right direction.

Is it becoz of my settings? as i did not use it with the batteries.

How does the rest of the roll look? Like this? If so, it looks like you have sever light leaks on the back door.

It looks like a light seal problem. These cameras are quite old by now, and the foam rubber is usually deteriorated. I've bought half a dozen Yashicas over the last couple of months, and every single one has had to have the light seals replaced. You can do it yourself easily enough. For the seals on the right side I use the velvet-type material which I scavenge from old 35mm film cassettes. I simply glue it on using rubber cement. For the seals along the top and bottom, I use adhesive-backed rubber sheeting 1.5 millimeters thick. Some Yashicas also have light seals for the left side as well, but these seals are located on the film door. I use the same rubber matting to make the left-side seals.

Once the camera is properly sealed, it should work wonderfully.

I'll second that! Any Electro that still has the factory seals will need the quivering piles of goo replaced... 😀

Plus, the camera must have a battery in order for the shutter to fire correctly. I believe that it only fires at 1/500 without the battery.

And I agree about the foam seals. They must be replaced. It's a common requirement of nearly all Japanese cameras.

This is probably quite true.
Pre cut foam is available in ebay from John Goodman, very reliable dealer. It is easy to do.

Jon usually sends detailed instructions with the set. It's easy to do really. Even I could do it.

Can't deny the usual need for light seal replacement on any older camera. However, I am curious why the whole frame isn't affected, rather that just the ends of the frame. Also, the right of the photo seems to have a wave effect. I have no personal experience with lightseal leaks, so maybe that is in fact just how they look?

BTW, Is that a stature? It has some unusual highlights on it.

All of the light leaks that I have seen have been bands and streaks on part of the frame, similar to the photo above.

It is probably just a very small amount of light that is reaching the film, just enough to cause problems! :bang:
