Hi to all, I joined RFF recently after I decided a Bessa R2 or R3a was the way to go...I have had a M3 but really like 35mm lenses and prefer to shoot ap priority...so as of today I am the owner of a Bessa R2A....at the moment I a 35mm 2.5 lens until they get the 1.9 in for me....

So thanks to all and RFF

Looking forward to shooting on the Bessa, sure it will be a real change from my usual shooting & photography...

I look forward to shooting some more personal projects with the Bessa, don't think I'll be able to shoot anything commercially with it, but the idea is to simplify my personal shooting....as my commercial stuff gets more and more complex...

1st Roll back yesterday, all working well, a pleasure to shoot, and a really nice looking camera too (got the grey), looking forward to getting the 1.7 35mm (2.5 on it at the mo) , I have a Leica 50 f2 to test out as well....but I love 35mm.

Shooting f2 50mm wide open and close....say I focus on someones eye...will the shorter rf base length of the Bessa cope, will I get a sharp shot (where I focus)??

Welcom Bronek, looking at your work I clearly have a lot more to learn. You have some stunning images.

You'll have no trouble with a 50 F2 with the Bessa even close up, the R2a is a fine machine if you want to use 35 framelines in the VF. I'd be interested on your thoughts os the 35 2.5 v the 1.7 when you get it, I have the 1.7 but was thinking of the 2.5 as it is a lot smaller.

Hi, Bronek. Nice galleries. I can heartily recommend the 35 Ultron. It has less contrast than the Skopar but much nicer rendition. You'll be fine with a 50 f2 wide open (and 50 Summicrons are lovely), 90 f2 would be another matter.

I've had both 35's, Tony, have a browse round my galleries or HERE . The Umbrian gallery is nearly all Ultron, the NZ stuff is Skopar.

Mark, I have a feeling that the 35 Skopar may well be an addition to the fold. Love the toning of your shots and like yourself I often marvel at the ability of the 90 Lanthar. Bronek I can recommend this lens with no hesitation and it'll work fine with the Bessa close at f3.5 with a little care.

Now I 'was' thinking of a 50 screw mount but I guess my 'lightweight' outfit of Bessa R 35, 75 would get heavier... something to ponder I guess, that 35 Skopar is a gem.

Thanks for you thoughts, Ultron appeals from a physical point of view, I like the barrel to focus with rather than the handle (thingy), the skopar is compact though....but 1.7 will be handy.

Pleased to hear that the 50mm will be fine, will be shooting some shots on that soon.

I will look at the galleries too, I did not realize there was that much of a dif between the "look" of the two lenses...

Bronek - welcome and glad to hear your R2A is working well for you. By the way, your images are incredible. Excellent work. It's very encouraging to know that photographers of your caliber are choosing Voigtlanders.

I have the same "stylish" grey R2a body and I have both the 35 Skopar and Ultron. I used to use the Skopar a lot more due to its size...didn't mind much about the slower aperture and ISO400 film gets me through most things...but I do mind the increased contrast (I shoot primarily B&W). For that reason I've started to use the Ultron more. The lower contrast gives me more to work with later on. 🙂

from what i am hearing I think the Ultron will suit me more, from a contrast and f-stop pov, I'm not a lover of the dark room, I scan and print digitally...used to do hex-tone prints but B+W from a good epson now suits me (I know purist love hand prints, but my skills are not in the darkroom...I love photoshop)....and I have to say I do love printing on matt and etching type papers....I think due to the scanning the Ultron will suit...my scanner does well with nice non too contrasty negs (flextight photo).

Also Burkey, is that a Leica digilux?? in your avatar? I was looking at one of those for a while...and an epson rd1....in the end the bessa won out...do you like the leica??

Bronek - yes it's a D2. I think the images I've gotten from it over the past two years have really been much better than I expected. As most say the lens on the D2 is really excellent. Printing out D2 images on an Epson 2200 has worked very well. But, I purchased my R3A after the D2 purchase because that difficult to describe film look is something I still admire a lot. BTW, the five images on my gallery are from the D2. R3A images shortly.

Bronek, your gallery is wonderful, I actually love pictures from Africa and Poland. Some of my friends are just back from Auschwitz, but they didn't had your photography skills to render the emotion of the place.

Thank-you for all your replys, it was great to look through the galleries and be able to see the "look" of both the Skopar and Ultron....one lens I'n not considered, until now is the 35mm 1.2 (nokton...I think). I was recently shooting the birth of my brand new little girl (1st, very tired now and very excited), I was shooting the R2A with the skopar but found a little slow....also I love shallow DOF, my fav lens on digi is 85 1.2, there is also a canon 35mm 1.4 which I like ...... so I'm wandering about the Viogtlander 35 1.2...read a few post so far.... any thoughts here???

I shoot digital, almost exclusively for commercial, so it has been really nice to to load up the bessa....I just hope I have time to proc the film.....

Well I have had my R2A for about seven weeks now and the Ultron 35mm for about three weeks, I really like the combination. Most of what I have shot has been tri-x pushed so it has been hard to see the dif between skopar and the ultron, but as far as shooting goes the Ultron is better for me. I know there is going to be a little bit of me that will always want the Nokton 1.2, I came so close but there was no where to look at one in Melbourne, so it would have been a sigit unseen purchase.

So far I have only shot B+W, of to buy some colour film today and try that in the Bessa, also want to run som C41 B+W through it, I used to always find it easier for scanning.
