i know that in a dslr if i have a 3000 by 2400 pixel image, i can print it ( as is ) to
a 10 by 8 inch size at 300 dpi.

i am now scanning cn41 bw film and would like to get a 10 by 8 inch print. what
dpi do i need to scan it at?

if my maths is off please correct me.

Best regards and thanks for your help.

You divide the negative size by inches and then you multiply by 300 and by your print size, so in case of a 24x36mm, the short side is slightly less than an inch, so let's say 1x300x8=2400, therefore you should scan at least at 2500ppi.

mfogil, thanks for your quick response. got it!

i love your images and wish i could be half as good as you.
regards.
