So I took about 20 shots with NEX 7 and Sony Zeiss 24mm 1.8.

I want to love it but I just don't.

I am planning to return this.

Its a great camera, very light and the lens is great but I just dont love it. A friend of mine told me to give it some time but I know when don't love it right away, it will just sit in my cabinet in box with my other cameras.

if its a "meh" impression in the beginning, its unlikely get any different later.

would love to try same combo myself 🙂

Exactly.

Except that my Ricoh GXR was a meh in beginning but loved it after a month of use. I ended up selling it so I can buy a Canon.

Small it's good!!! for me...

If you love and object, you will like to have it more close to you, and in the case of a camera, most time you have it with you, you will make more pictures (or more video) the more pictures (or video) you make, the most chances you have, to have good ones.... it's simple mathematics.. so if you don't love it will ended up in your cabinet us you say.

Also you can make me a present ;-)))

Yeah, not easy to decide.
On the one hand for me it also is very important to "like" a cam from the beginning, at least from the first time I hold it. But on the other hand it would be a shame if you gave back thae cam without giving it a chance to convince you. But then the longer you use it the smaller the chance to return it...

If it doesn't agree with you right away, send it back. It's not the cheapest camera for not loving it. There will be another which will be more agreeable. Tried the X100?

Acutally the body will hold it's value for some time. It's a personal thing, but change always takes so time to get used to.

If I thought the 7 was to small, my next step would be M8--a nice one just went for 1700.

It's great to hear you liked the image quality 🙂

Lots of cameras seem great in spec and I want to like them, but they just don't strike the chord. None of the NEX have hit it for me, neither of the X100 or X10 either.

The GXR was a ballpark hit even before the A12 Camera Mount was delivered and has done superb service. The M4-2 is right on the money. Most DSLRs have left me cold, but the E-1 rang the bell. As did the L1, the Nikon F. The old Polaroid SX-70 sings, as does a Minox EC, a Hassy SWC. The M9 ... Beyond shadow of a doubt, I knew as soon as I picked it up it was right for me.

The key thing about a camera that work for you is that you find you just want to make more photos with it. Ones that don't work ... I let them go fast. Ones that do stick around.

Very good points.

I used to carry my X100 around with me all the time and worked beautifully. My M9 still works for me when I have to do work.

Best M adaptor camera has been GXR with M mount.

Aside from the form factor of NEX 7, I really do not like the EVF and live view. How it does not have smoothing and clarity. I expected more. The image with Sony Zeiss 24mm 1.8 was fantastic. Some might think its petty to see it this way (my friends think so).

I wish Australia had such a generous return policy. I once asked in a camera store if they accept returns if I change my mind, the salesman just gave me the death stare.

Similar experience here in France (but of course I have not asked everywhere so there may be exceptions).

It may well be that the only place with such a policy is the United States. Everything in the world economy is geared towards getting that population to overconsume, as much as possible. Needless to say (and this is NOT a comment about return policy), that part of the equation has to change.

Did you try adjusting Creative Styles? If you're a raw shooter, you should turn the contrast all the way down, which unplugs shadows quite a bit. Also, a leather half case, like the one from Gariz, will bulk the camera up nicely.
