NEX-7. Yeah baby, YEAH!

Yes, depth is added to the back of the camera, but it folds up very compactly, so it's a tradeoff. It's not perfect, but it does the job. And it only cost $350, not $1000, like a camera with EVF probably will, if they ever design and release it. And mine is available right now, even at a discount if you search around. This isn't something that you can walk into a store and try, you have to build it yourself, although it's pretty easy to do and quick.

Yes, you hold it to your eye, like a normal VF camera. It is somewhat different in use, but easy to get used to, I have found. I have enjoyed using it so much, that I bought a second one, so I will have a backup, and don't have to change lenses so often when working quickly, especially on location.

So with two bodies you're looking at $700 versus (probably) $2000 for bodies with EVF. I think I will stick with the Nex-3.

Whatever works for sure, but it looks like it adds a couple of inches of depth to the camera?

Do you hold it right up to your eye like you would a normal VF camera?

looks a bit too over engineered and not very logical button layout IMO, so hope this is photoshop hoax. but would be nice to see finally NEX7.

Here's the newest leak, as seen on sonyalpharumors, photorumors, and most of the other rumor sites:

I find it interesting that the Zeiss 24mm is a Sonnar, instead of a Biogon or a Distagon (like the Zeiss Alpha lens).

The Distagons are retrofocus lenses, and since a mirrorless system hardly needs such a design (except for very wide angles), this leaves Biogon and Sonnar (and Planar, although that is typically a design for focal lengths 50mm and up). Traditionally, Sonnar has been the name of Zeiss' fast lenses with a certain, rather simple design. The Biogons, on the other hand, are modern, elaborate and highly corrected designs. If the lens really is a Sonnar, or just bears that name in order to claim heritage? We'll have to wait for a lens diagram to be published in order to be certain ...

Btw, that NEX-7 really looks exciting! :)

That grip looks so much better.

Is it me, or... Sony is actually listening to their customers? And that's not something you see everyday lately.

I mean, they are releasing a viewfinder, they did a great job with the firm updates, and if they are changing the ergonomics, getting a hot-shoe and a few dials, I'll follow the NEX series for a long time.

It's a huge looking lens. Yikes.

Currently, the lens line-up (IMO) is preventing me from having any enthusiasm for the Nex line.

I completely agree. Maybe this Zeiss lens is the start of something good...no clue as to why it's so massive, though.

As always I hope the EVF is usable. I tried out the EVF on a Sony A55 and it was awesome so I am hoping.

If this camera has an evf equivalent to the A55 I'll be very happy... That A55 EVF is really, really great. Combine it with focus peaking and I think they've got a winner for sure.

The lens does look big. Too bad, fast 24 (converted into 35mm equivalent) would be my only interest in NEX lenses. Other than that I don't really care about NEX lens lineup. Body only. Plan to use it with M and small ai-s F lenses. With that viewfinder and peak focusing it might indeed seriously compete with my film RF cameras. At least for a while.

What Phantomas said.

I don't care much about Sony lenses. I care about the body and the manual focusing tools.
I use my nex with rokkors and leicas.

I like very much the Nex bodies. I can dislike Sony as a company like the next average guy, but I do appreciate their photographic equipment. The Nex line of bodies stands very high on my list and I am shopping for a digital high end *small* camera. My biggest problem is the luck of high quality pancake lenses. 4/3, Pentax and Samsung have much better choices when it comes to compact lenses.

The rumor is that the EVF will be considerably better than the A55, but we'll see.

I wish the new Zeiss was smaller and slower, but, that's ok. I'll stick with rangefinder lenses on this thing.

Since I can't find an X100 anywhere, Sony may be getting my money. I'd probably just use it with the lenses I already have.

Andre, not a bad idea...but are you more of a 35mm fan or 50mm fan? 35mm lenses for the Nex at 1.5 crop are either large (Zeiss), expensive (Leica), or slow... i.e. CV 25mm f/4.

Sold off the X100 a few weeks back to fund for this. I'm very excited! The only concerns I had with my NEX5 was the lack of viewfinder and the loud shutter and both are *fixed in the NEX7 :)

*the shutter bit is mostly speculation. I'm only assuming it will be quieter do to the reports of a quieter shutter in the NEX-C3
