May have been mentioned, here from SAR, a hands on impression:
"“I can tell you though that the NEX-7 feels good in the hand. I only got to use the camera for about a minute but the EVF is superb. It reminds me of what it’s like looking at an iPhone retina display. You simply can’t see the pixels because they are so small. I didn’t see any rainbow effects and the refresh rate was super fast. There is still a tiny bit of lag when panning but it’s much improved. I tested it inside a somewhat dark restaurant, performance may be better in good lighting. Autofocus with the 24mm is very fast. It seems its almost as fast as the m43rd’s cameras. Maybe just a tiny bit slower but the important thing is that for single autofocus is as fast as anybody would practically need it to be.
About the Zeiss lens: I’m told Sony spent a lot of time and effort trying to not make the lens too big without compromising quality. I haven’t seen image quality first hand but I’m told its typical zeiss quality. Beautiful colors and a high amount of natural contrast.
The Nex-7 is also going to be expensive because it has a customized sensor. Sony, I’m told, has struggled a bit with getting good corners because of the short registration distance. Sony originally planned for the NEX to be marketed at consumers and didn’t realize it would be a hit with enthusiast too. To combat the short registration distance, they put in some micro offset lenses. All lenses will benefit from this, including legacy glass so people will see improved performance with their rangefinder lenses.
The one real surprising news I can share with you is that the 24mm zeiss has a leaf shutter! I was very surprised to find this out but Sony is going to market this as the modern day rangefinder for street photography. I was told they are filming a commercial showing the evolution of the rangefinder into the NEX-7. It will be posted online in the coming months. It won’t be on tv because Sony doesn’t expect the average consumer to buy this camera, they believe the 3 and 5 series is for them.
I was told that the 3million dot evf will make manual focusing a bit better as well."

Isn't it a fairly solid rumour that the next Leica is using a sony sensor. In which case wouldn't it make sense that it would be the same sensor as this? The micro offset lenses sort of seal that fate.
NEX7 looks great, perhaps i will sell off my canon gear once and for all. The viewfinder is the killer, the NEX5 away last weekend proved nigh impossible in sunlight.
I'm interested in the video too. They're pushing the video side of things and whilst i doubt anyone around here is that interested in that for me it does add something. If they can sort out the aliasing issues then i'm 100% sold. A tiny video capture device using rangefinder lenses is a very useful tool in production. A 12mm CV on a dashboard into a car, great potential for getting shots that would otherwise prove difficult...

:bang: Need to sell my Nex 5 soon then as that is my biggest disappointment with it.
The live vieuw finder is near useless in bright sunlight.
which makes a hood or clearviewer a necesity.

Yeah, the nex7 looks like it could be scary good. It would really be interesting if it turned out that the 24mp sensor was actually an 8mp faveon type sensor. 😀
If they've corrected the corner performance of their inexpensive entry level aps-c 'consumer electronics camera', then that's just showing off. Hats off to the sony engineers. 🙂

The announced "R lens solution", which will probably be an EVIL type of camera to which M and R lenses can be adapted, maybe. But if you're referring to Leica M, not so probable, since they will surely not go down from 35mm to APS-C for the M10.

I don't get the NEX line.
They have these wonderfully small cameras with giant lenses that totally negate the idea of them being small.
If the lens is going to stick out that far, you might as well buy a smaller bodied DSLR.

I see your point, but I would bet that the majority of NEX users here don't use the Sony AF lenses. With a small Leica lens on it, its very compact.

The small size of NEX does NOT negate them in my view just becasue they make the lenses look larger. My NEX 3 has replaced a pentax DSLR which I never really took to. In the couple of months I have been using the NEX I have made more and better images than I did with pentax in three years.
The fact is that the NEX offers a 'new' type of digital photography that is likely to be missed entirely with a DSLR,...the whole process of image making is different with NEX and, strangely, more akin to using a large format camera with whatever lens one desires to use, not just those that Mr Pentax or Mr Canon thinks I should have.
In short the NEX is more like the digital camera that i have been waiting for these last 5 or 6 years.
The fact is that the NEX offers a 'new' type of digital photography that is likely to be missed entirely with a DSLR,...the whole process of image making is different with NEX and, strangely, more akin to using a large format camera with whatever lens one desires to use, not just those that Mr Pentax or Mr Canon thinks I should have.

Same here, Total Agreeement. Not interested in the Nex7, especially if it is 4X-6X the cost of the Nex3. I'm quite happy and content with my two Nex3s'. Great bang for the buck. If I want to upgrade my digital capabilities, I'd drop that $$$ into a used CFV back for my Hasselblad system. Even so I will not be scrapping my Nex3s'. I will be happily running them into the ground.
