NEX-7 Zeiss Full Size Samples

Given the size of the sensor and your demand for fast quality lenses, doesn't this carry a size penalty that will never allow for small lenses?

It would be nice if Sony continues to encourage Zeiss to make lenses for the NEX, but for small lenses, go for a smaller sensor.

But people want BIG sensors, and cameras in the mft line with more compact lenses and bodies have such tiny 2x crop sensors 😉

A year or two from now this will be a laughable discussion.

Like the rise of the first nex-5, the naysaying is meaningless, and the genuine concerns are being addressed.

Could the zeiss be smaller? Maybe, but it weighs 225 grams and is very very fast.

The plastic pancakes will come, for those who MUST have them, while many will just use small Ms like the CVs.

Comparing to M43 is ridiculous, since the nex-7 will likely outperform every aps-c camera made when it is released in November.

The GXR is at least in the same league-- a progenitor already outrun, and what took them so long to put out the M module? It might have really helped if it was relased at the begininng.

The zeiss is not worth a grand? Is the M9 body worth 7? Silly Silly.

Anyone who puts technical advancement ahead of their own fear should be delighted with the nex-7 and the fast zeiss, even if they never plan to own one.

It puts that small FF with all the bells and whistles much closer 🙂

All the crazy whining threads at DP just show the nex-7 has already penetrated the cameraholic mind to a remarkable degree.

A serious eval of the zeiss will be some time in coming, but I doubt it will disappoint realistc expectations

but a 5d + 35L has better IQ again, and it's not much bigger, and would probably handle better + optical viewfinder.

It seems that in the world of legacy lenses, it would be good to use rangefinder lenses with the NEX-7 when reaching for wide angle lenses. Otherwise, you are making the package larger without a performance advantage. I Have the 35L and many other 'L' lenses, but I don't intend on using them on the NEX. They are all larger than my 'M' lenses and as we go telephoto, they are larger/heavier than my Zeiss C/Y lenses.

Luminous landscape posted their initial impressions of the Nex-7 with the zoom and the Zeiss 24f1.8. They did comparison between it and Leica 24 sumilux..

I can not tell if the contrast looks not as good as M/G mount or if it has like a built in UV filter or something... something is a little off...

Sharpness is just like other Zeiss lenses, 1st in the business. The rendering looks better on human skin than animals though, kinda weird.

Is it the camera or the lens that is not going to outclass M's or G's? I can not tell. I dig it but it has not killed film or digitals yet in anything you can slap a zeiss/leica lens on.

Have you seen the other Zeiss lenses in the full format wide angle area. They seem not to be capable (at their price point) to come up with something reasonably compact. I was looking at the 35 mm Zeiss Nikon options. That's a joke. Sorry. The NEX needs neat small native lenses. Can't see any.

While from no user experience you think they are a joke, the 35mm f/2 is THE BEST 35mm f/2 lens ever made for 35mm format, and the new 35/1.4 is incredible in it's own right.

Is this a real NEX-7 sample? If it is, I am blown away and would love to see a shot with a 50mm Summicron!

We need to find more out about this photo. We should devote a special thread on this image alone to illustrate the NEX 7 quality. I downloaded it and converted it to Black and White and was blown away!

I handled the Zeiss today on an NEX 7. It's about the same size as the 18-55. It's very well balanced and the NEX-7 REALLY reminds me of a Contax G. Now all they need is an 18mm 2.8, a 14mm 2.8, a 30mm f2, and a 60mm 2.8. Then they'd pretty much have the Contax system DOWN.

However, that's not gonna happen. But honestly I'd be happy with just ONE more Zeiss lens...

Then again...I'm happy with my X100 and my Pentax... Sony will have do do something more than megapixels to impress me at this point.

Oh btw that XGA OLED viewfinder would make M3 owners impressed.

Well, I saw the NEX 7 photo in the photographers hand with the strobe studio package. The logic is inescapable that this sample is indeed a NEX 7 sample.

I will say it again, I am blown away!!!!

My M8 files are great but this camera is capable of more resolution and detail. For $1,199, this cannot be beat! It is early but all of this looks extremely promising!

No joke... Contax G obliterated competition for sharpness... The digital world needs this, but specific for a digital camera. Perhaps this time everyone will like the camera.
