NEX-7 Zeiss Full Size Samples

The Zeiss lens is large because it is a fast lens which covers a large sensor area. Can a smaller, less capable lens be made? Sure, but I think that the Zeiss lens was a counter to all the poor quality lenses presently available for the NEX system, which was initially marketed as a cheap APS-C system. Price was certainly the objective with their present lens lineup. We have yet to see if the Zeiss delivers.

You need to use a smaller sensor camera, non-autofocus lens, slower lens, or optically inferior lens in order to shrink a lens. You can't do it with magic, or wishful thinking.

FWIW, I believe the NEX 50mm is actually a tiny bit smaller than the new Zeiss 24.

28 is the best "normal" for the Nex (IMHO), and I am sure the CV would be very good.

I use an elmairt-m and CV 28/3.5

That said, the nex lens line is actually looking quite decent

16 + .75 adapter gives you a nice 12mm--corners could be better, but it is superfast for something so wide.

the 24 will be good---better than good.

the 30macro, is getting RAVE reviews, from those who have tried it--slow, yes, so is my nikkor 55/3.5--but who cares? SHould be a fantastic landscape lens.

the 50/1.8 will be great

and the 55-200 is supposed to be also extremely good.

the 18200 is actually really good, but I grant its too big for daily use. The lenses above are all quite light, if not as small as the little CVs.

So I think you could go native and really do fine---but as we know the great glass is about more than just rez, CA and distortion.

Hence, a CV 50/1.5 is going to be hard to better, and that Canon LTM 85/1.8 won't be bothered by natives :)

Now the zeiss 24 might really give the CV 28/2 a hard run.

My Pen-F 25/2.8 has centers which can drop jaws, but on my old 5, the corners aberate

28=42mm in the NEX world, so a perfect field of view yes, not too wide, not too tight.

I can't wait to try my 35mm Super Triplet Perar on the NEX 7. Sure to be the smallest lens to mount on any camera.

It's a bit tighter at 52mm view with the cropped sensor, but my other lenses will be at 37.5 (ZM 25mm) and 75mm (50mm Summilux and ZM Planar). These will pretty much match my preference for full frame as well!

With all of the lens choices out there, it may be a while before I even consider a proper e-mount lens.

I've only read this thread today and I'm late in replying to this post, which is a week old; but it seems the rumors of the death of the GXR M-Module are great exaggerated (to coin a phrase).

We have no idea how the picture quality will compare if the GXR M-Module with a camera that is not even out yet. The NEX-5N is being sold already but we still don't have anything conclusive on how the image quality for wide-angle lenses compares with that of the GXR M-Module. Someone in another thread has posted some links to pictures takes with a Nokton-40 that suggest that the resolution of the NEX-5N is nowhere near as good as that of the GXR M-Module, but the comparison is nowhere rigorous enough.

We'll just have to see how the NEX-7 compares to the GXR M-Module with wide-angle M-Lenses. The GXR sets a high standard: I find that files better than those I got with the Leica M8, with clear and transparent colours and very good resolution. I've been very interested in the NEX-7, but it is not at all clear that it will be better for wide-angle M-Lenses than the GXR M-Module, whose colour rendition and way of drawing is really excellent. The quote above sounds too much like the statement of a spectator sport viewer.

Fwiw. Stve Huff has used both the gxr with m module and the nex5n. He likes the pictures from the gxr with m module better. He has a nex7 on pre order for himself as well. Below is the link to his comments and pictures.

I did not think it was much of an article myself... The comment about liking the gxr better than the 5n caught my eye considering he had hands on with both cameras.

Ps forgot to mention I currently have a Nex-3... I am happy with it outside of the corner issues with really wide angle lenses.

I wish the NEX-7 and M4/3 lot were combined.

The M4/3 system currently has some great lenses, the 12/20/25/45 lenses basically let you cover your bases.

The NEX-7 however has the EVF, great sensor, 1080P movies (needed for me) but the lens selection is poor, it needs more pancakes.

Combined they would be a great modern replacement for the Contax G2 system which I loved.

I'm still going to go NEX-7 as I love a viewfinder and the movie mode is going to be v. useful, but I do find myself casting many an envious eye at the M4/3 lenses.
