next episode on the used epson rd-1s plus lenses

Hi ,

yesterday i picked up the camera and lenses.
The camera looked almost like new. Only some tiny scratsches on the lcd.
The 50 and 15 mm lenses were like new. The minolta 28 mm had no white dot's
But today after testing, it turned out that the camera had some frontfocus.
The focus was ahead of the actual focuspoint.:bang:
The guy who sold it to me immediately took it back and he told me he would send it to epson for adjustment. Great guy.

regarding RF, yes it will take some time to get used to it. But i LOVE to go back to the "film" feeling. I hated it more and more taking some many pictures.
The rd-1s gives me the feeling back taking pictures again.
I hope the problem can be solved soon.
It seems it's a common problem of the rd-s1 ????? bad quality control ??

If it was the Rangefinder that was out it may have been better to have ago at adjusting it yourself as some people have had them come back from Epson no better than when they went. Its possible that the correct adjustment can go out in transit if handled roughly.

Most adjustments are possible through the Hotshoe, but if it is correct at infinity and just out close-up then that may require the top plate removal which is more tricky.

Did you check all the lenses? Were they all giving a similar amount of front focus?

I had the feeling it were all three lenses, but the 50 mm clearly was the easiest to give a good test. A 15 mm is much more difficult to give a good test.

can the adjustment be done by only removing the hot shoe ?

Yes, if you have a small flat screwdriver long enough to reach the screws (a cheap jeweler's screwdriver is fine).

Check out the info on adjustment on Rich's excellent RD-1 FAQ site here: http://www.richcutler.co.uk/r-d1/r-d1_16.htm and/ or do a search of past threads.

Vertical and Infinity adjustments are easy through the hotshoe, but there is only limited adjustment if out at close distances as the top plate needs removing to get at the 4th screw.

I suggest good quality screw drivers that fit the slots to avoid stripping the heads as the screws are at an angle through the hotshoe.

Thanks all for the feedback.
First he will contact epson because the camera is still under warranty and we don't want to loose that.
A fellow fotographer over here also has offered to demonstrate how the correct the focus issue.
I will keep you informed abouth the rd-s1 "gate"
