At the moment I have the R3A with the 40mm Nokton and now I can't decide on what lens to purchase next. I was thinking about the 75mm for portraits but at the same time I really miss that tiny bit of extra reach from a 50mm lens. I'm torn between picking up the 50mm f/ 1.5 (or a different 50mm) or getting a 75mm (which might not get THAT much use). I guess the biggest problem is whether I would kick myself for getting the 50mm while already having the 40mm (the inability to see the framelines is becomming a little tedious with composition for everyday street use?)

Thanks for any help.

I REALLY, REALLY like my 75, but I also REALLY, REALLY like the Canon 50/1.8 that I've got. Very tough to decide between 'em, but I think 50's are going to be more available over time than the 75. Guess I'd go with the 75 first.....just what I did.

I too have the R3A. I picked it up with the 50/1.5 and it is really sweet. My approach was to get a Jupiter 9 for my 'long' lens and spend the good money on the 50. The J-9 is a very good performer (good vodka ration at the factory that day). My next big purchase will likely be a CV 35mm, that way, my wide and normal will be top quality.

I picked up the CV 50mm/f2. Oh my gosh, what a lens. really small and provides a little more reach than the 40. At wide open, the bokeh is a softer blur, which has its appeal.

The 75mm is an excellent lens, very sharp, and would be a good partner for the 40mm. If you really need a 50 get a J8 50/2, cheap as chips and an excellent performer

Just as an update I decided to get the 250th Anniv. 50mm Heliar f/2. It just came in the mail from Photo Village and I'm in heaven.
