Nikkor 3.5cm f.25

Recently i acquired this lens from ebay, but i found very little information of this lens on the internet. Most of which was mentioning the black version which i assume is the S mount. It was mentioning about a 43mm filter thread, whereas this version that i owned requires a 34.5mm

As this is a LTM mount, is there a variation between the S and LTM? Or is there such version on the S mount as well?

Any difference between the 2 version?

I can only speak for the S-mount version, but I would assume that they are almost identical... as is the case with all the S-mount lenses they made LTM variations of (35 f/1.8, 50 f/2, 85 f/1.5 (and f/2?), etc.) besides the obvious difference in barrell design for this lens. It's a very sharp lens, I have wanted to buy one again for a while now..

Barrel and coating changes were made during the course of production, but the optics are the same for all versions whether LTM or S-mount.

In S-mount, first was the chrome version, then the black version pictured at the Ken Rockwell link posted by RanceEric, then this one below (mounted on the Zeiss Ikon via an Amedeo adapter). In LTM, first was the chrome version, then toward the end of production a black rim was added to the chrome version. See pic below.

I got one a few months ago, a chrome and black version in ltm and I love it. It's great on a screw mount or an M. Cameraquest.com has some info under screw mount lenses. Get one and you'll probably never sell it. Joe

There is a change in terms of the design as well right? From the pics, it seems that the later black rim one has a bigger filter thread size.

Wooo...the swirly bokeh seems really nice...i just ran a roll of black and white film in this camera..looking at the colors from ur pics...i get so tempted to shoot in color!

I'm pretty sure its the same 34.5mm size, Jackson. Its quite hard to find 34.5mm filters 🙁

Haha there is non on ebay...but given the barrel design..think its still safe to shoot without one...just got to be careful in handling them.🙂

Time to bring my camera and lens out for a shoot.

I was lucky to find my LTM W-Nikkor 35mm f2.5 for a great price at Adorama last January.
Here it is on my M8 with a SOOGZ clamp-on filter adapter for an elmar and a heavystars summitar to E39 adapter for a UV-IR filter.
The filter set-up works well and the lens is still shorter and smaller than my 35 Cron.

The other version is on my Nikonos II with a Nikkor 35 f2.5 with a Sekonic marine lightmeter.
I've read that both lenses are the same and they have very similar qualities.

The W-Nikkor is my favorite lens on my M8, and the Nikonos is a great summer/beach/bad weather setup.

Mounted to this I have a chinese version of a SHNOO adapter from Heavystars on ebay. This converts A36 summitar threads to common E39 filters. ebay Item number: 360395114687

There is also a very rare SOOGZ A36 clamp-on adapter that converts A36 threads directly to E39 filters.

N i was thinking about a step up ring but it seems like finding a step up from 34.5 is equally tough.

Guess i will just go ahead to use it without a filter..🙂

I picked up the A36 clamp on years ago for $10.00 and and it just sat in a box because I didn't know what to do with it.
When I got my Nikkor and wanted to use it on my m8 with UV-IR filter, the brain cells kicked in.
I've read about people removing glass from A36 C-O filters and fixing a E39 filter to it.

Finally my first roll is out.
Shot using Legacy Pro 400, pushed 1 stop to 800 and processed with Xtol.

It was an intended roll that i load into my M2 thinking that i would use it on days like this

Who knows after 2 shots, the weather changes again...this time, the sun was glazing...
Anyway its good as well for my trip to Universal Studio Singapore..

Everyone seems to like Mr Frankenstein so much so that i cant keep people out of the frame🙂

This lens is really nice, focusing is spot on as well.

Finally a chance to test how the lens render its depth of field @2.5
Shot at 6pm when the sun finally sets...

Do pardon me if the pictures werent good enough..it was my first roll of legacy pro and my first test using xtol given by a friend...🙂

I'm still kicking myself that I dented the filter ring not long after. I never dropped a lens in my life before but this one's really heavy for its small size, and that ring is rather soft brass. Hit a wooden floor from probably less than a foot up. Ah well.

Not the greatest ergonomics but the infinity lock really helps. Set aperture first, then move it off infinity.

Too bad it doesn't mount properly on FSU cameras (it's one of those lenses with a cut-out for the cam follower that needs to end up in the correct spot).

Sorry to hear about that...at least the lens was not damaged beyond use.
Mine is in Ltm mount as well and i actually didnt like the infinity lock on this lens. Maybe its my copy, its a little hard to lock and unlock it on my M2.

And i agree on the part about changing aperture. I realised the nikkor lenses that i owned has this problem..

Try a different M adapter. You need one with a cutout for the infinity lock.

EDIT: Wait -- I can't really tell from your pictures above but it looks like you're using one already. Odd.

Great lens. I still use the one I purchased in 1956 on my Nikon S2.

Yes, it's a fine lens, and very compact. A SOOGZ works well for e39 filters, and a FOOKH is a perfect shade.

A lot of lenses have the same issue of the aperture rng rotating with the focusing barrel. The ones I've used include: Nikkor 85/2 and 105/2.5; Canon 25/3.5, 50/3.5, 50/2, 85/1.8; Leica 50/2.8 Elmar, 50/2 Summar and 90/4 Elmar. So your 35/2.5 Nikkor is in good company. 🙂
