I have one Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AIS lens that cames with my second Nikon F3. Seller cleaned surface of glass, however...

It has 2 spot of mold inside. I do not mind one glass bubble but I wonder what should I do, my options are:

1. Sell it, since I already have 50mm f1.8 AF-D lens.

2. Find a repairman for CLA, I know there have some repairmancan do CLA for F3 but not sure who do CLA for lens?

3. Cleaning by hand. This process needs tools and manual to disassemble and re-assemble.

So I would like RFFer's opinion for these 3 options.

Buy a 50mm 1.8 Series E for less than it would cost to have this lens cleaned. The Series E is fantastic. Small, sharp, amazing bokeh that shines at 2.8. Shouldn't cost more than 25-30 USD.

I see this might be a good substitute lens. I guess I will put it and faulty F3 at evil bay soon and find one 50mm pancake. Even KEH has option for $50 for including hood.

A lens CLA just for the elements that are exposed when the optical blocks are removed is around $25.00 with most repair houses. It is not "Spider Web" fungus, so it should clean up w/o a trace that effects the IQ in most cases.

I agree, though, the Series E is real deal. !! For the cost of the CLA

Sell it...
PM me if you do... I could use a fast 50mm f/1.8 for my FE.

That would give me a 24/50/55 f/3.5 micro nikkor/135/100-300 kit.
