U can always find them at a nice price these days :angel:I was foolish enough to trade in an E-series 50/1.8 for an autofocus 50/1.8. Over the years, I've had the AF, AFn and AFD versions. That I've gone through 3 versions of the AF should already tell that they weren't really my favorites. The original AF was hampered by a too narrow and hard focus ring and clumsy aperture lock, the AFn barrel badly wobbled, and the AFD isn't exactly the king of sharpness. All in all, despite that they're all reputed to have the same optical formula and there's multi-coating on the latter three, I found the E to give the best images by far and have the smoothest handling.

I would be too rough on yourself. You can buy another E series for like $25-35.

My personal fav is the 50/1.8 AIS as it's built a little nicer than the E. I'll try to post a few photos tomorrow if I can track them down.

I've used a 50mm f/1.8 Series E lens on my FM2 for far longer than I care to remember. Though about 3 years ago I picked up an AI-S f/1.4 lens. Here is a photo I took with the Series E lens many years ago of the USS Bonefish disaster.
