Anyone got one of these lenses? Haven't used one since a trip several years ago to the Smoky Mtns with a friend's FA and this lens. I loved it!

Would appreciate seeing your photos using this lens.🙂

I was foolish enough to trade in an E-series 50/1.8 for an autofocus 50/1.8. Over the years, I've had the AF, AFn and AFD versions. That I've gone through 3 versions of the AF should already tell that they weren't really my favorites. The original AF was hampered by a too narrow and hard focus ring and clumsy aperture lock, the AFn barrel badly wobbled, and the AFD isn't exactly the king of sharpness. All in all, despite that they're all reputed to have the same optical formula and there's multi-coating on the latter three, I found the E to give the best images by far and have the smoothest handling.

My personal fav is the 50/1.8 AIS as it's built a little nicer than the E. I'll try to post a few photos tomorrow if I can track them down.

U can always find them at a nice price these days

A very cheap, light, compact lens that punches well above its weight in terms of image quality. The main reason I bought my FE-2 to stick on the back of it.

Note that there are two different versions of the Series E...one with a chrome ring one with a black plastic ring. A lot of times you can find them attached to a FE or FA or F whatever and pick up both for peanuts...I've had a FE with a black plastic ring Series E 50 for sale for $75 on Craigslist...everyone that calls has a D7000 or D5100 or whatever and they don't give a darn about the camera body and they all say "Oh it is an E...I'll pass...stupid fools! Come on $50 bucks give me a frigging break so I took it off...they seem to think they are going to be able to buy some regular Nikkor for nothing...

I found a roll of cheap c41 kicking around that I shot a couple years ago with my F3 and 50/1.8 series E.

Might be time to take that lens off the shelf again. It's far lighter/smaller than my 50/1.4, and I don't really care a terrible amount if it bangs into something.

excuse the exceptionally poor scans. my expectations are set pretty low from a minilab that processes and scans for $1.30/roll.
