Nikkor-N.C 1:1.1 50mm

Hey guys, new to the forums but was hoping someone here could help me out. My grandfather was a professional photographer and we have since taken on his collection. I have been able to find information on most of his cameras/lens but one in particular has me stumped. I found a Nikon SP Rangefinder with a Nikkor-N.C 1:1.1 50mm lens. I was wondering if anyone had any information on this particular lens, as i have searched the internet to no avail. All i could seem to find was information on Nikkor-N 1:1.1 50mm but not the N.C. model. How similar are these lenses in quality/value? Any information on this lens is appreciated. Hi Wade to me it looks like an internal mount early series Nikon Rangefinder lens with internal mount. There are many Nikon specialists here, so you came to the right place. must be a very early Serial number according to Rotolonis rangefinder book, i can imagine the lens having big appeal to collectors, are you selling it? I could imagine this going for a pretty penny,
 
thanks guys, the plan is to sell the lens along with much of the collection, as my grandfather has passed and the rest of us really have no use for so many cameras/lenses. He cherished his cameras so I'm sure he would have rather had them go to good homes than sit in storage.

Do you think the lens is best sold separately or with the camera (as i know the camera is quite valuable as well)? If separately, does anyone know what lens came stock with the camera as im sure it wasnt the N.C 1:1.1 50mm? I may have that lens lying around as well in which case i could just swap the lens out and sell the Nikon SP with a lens instead of just the body.
 
This is a wonderful lens, it is one of the big four at the time when the Japanese company are competing to make fast lens. These are before the Noctilux time. What is the condition and how much are you selling it for?
 
Much more a collector's item than a photographer's lens? The links to pictures made me happy with my 1.4 Nikkor and 1.5 Sonnar. DOF seems too shallow for controlled focus; it doesn't have the wide-open Nikkor/Sonnar 'glow'; and the bokeh looks sort of blocky - certainly not subtle - to me.

That's just one opinion, but it keeps quite a bit of money in the bank!

thank you everyone for the information. It has been very helpful since i'm not too knowledgeable on old cameras and lenses (grew up in the digital age). Looking at those pictures though i can definitely see how amazing some of these old rangefinders really are.

The purpose of this lens was to be faster than those 1.4 or 1.5 lenses of the time.

DOF is almost not existant with this lens wide open.

You need to look in your ganny's stash to see if there is a hood that fits this lens, it normally has it's own case.
The hood is worth close to the lens! And may be more if it's metal!!

I know a few folks here on the forum are chomping at the bit to just see what makes up this collection. I'd love to see some photos myself.
Please do send them off to a good user home.
