Nikok Coolscan V and Photoshop CS3

I tried this in another thread, but didn't get any answer, so I'm trying again:

Does anybody know how to make the Coolscan V LS-50 communicate with Photoshop on a Mac. The plugin that came with the scanner doesn't seem to do anything. Seems weird that there's no PS compability, don't you think?

Please, please help!

It worked fine for me before I sold the Coolscan. However, the current Nikon software isn't supported on an Intel based Mac if that is what you are using. It worked fine in CS3 on a G5 running Tiger OS!

Ah, crap! Is that why? That's ridiculous! Even my cheap flatbead scanner handles it. Man, that's annoying!

Well, hopefully they'll come with an update at some point, but seriously: the Intel macs have been around for a long time. Shouldn't they have fixed that by now?

frankly there is little financial incentive for them to do so. The scanner works with twain generic controllers but you loose functionality for ice, thumbnails, and such. frankly though you may need to just upgrade to a newer scanner like the new V ed or the 5000.

I saw a post a week back someone`s Nikon worked with Leopard.

My KM 5400 works with Tiger and Leopard. One reason I switched to Mac

And Ronald: it's not that it doesn't work. It does, and I like it a lot. the problem is that it won't communicate with photoshop.

You don't really need to have photoshop "communicate" with the scanner. You can use a scanning software for scanning and a photo editing application for photo editing. I think that's how most people are working nowadays. In the past, when everything worked through twain drivers it was usual to scan through photoshop but that is no longer necessary and I don't see what advantages it would have. I have the same scanner as you and it works fine with both the supplied software and vuescan on my intel mac. Vuescan is quicker.

Well, I guess it might not be strictly necessary, but it would be much more practical if the image opened itself in PS after scanning rather than in the NikonScan program like it does now. The workflow kind of stops a bit when you have to save and close in one program before opening it in another later.

I have mine set up to open tiffs with Photoshop, jpegs with Preview. I scan as tiffs, and whenever I click on one it opens in Photoshop.

I have a similar system. It's just so annoying when you have to save the file in a different program first.

Even if you get it to work, you'll save yourself some headaches by avoiding the PS integration...
