Hello everybody.......first let me say that I do not have a lot of experience in scanning negatives and using photoshop and I am not very knowledgeable in this realm of photography.....I am more accustomed to a darkroom....but I am in the market for a film scanner at the moment....I do not have a lot of money to spend on one and my primary reason for getting one is to scan negatives so I can put my photos up on the internet..I DO NOT INTEND TO MAKE DIGITAL PRINTS WITH THE SCANS....I plan on scanning mostly black and white negatives (tri-x).....ok, here is my question....I live in Bangkok now and I ran across a Nikon 4000 ed scanner that is located close to my house.....they are asking about 75.00 usd for this.....the owner says that is was used very little in the five years that it was owned.....so my question is......is this scanner good quality and what is the life expectancy on these things....I have no idea if this thing is a "dinosaur" in terms of film scanners......and how does this thing scan black and white negatives.....any known problems that I should be aware of....I would like the advice of people who have used this scannner or are familiar with it........BTW, I use an apple power book g4 as my computer if that makes any difference......thanks......
cheers, Michael

Have him scan a neg ot two to make sure it works.
Then see if the software works on your computer or if an upgrade is available.
Scanners do not have to be very good to make an internet scan.

If what the seller want is 75 USD for Nikon 4000ED in good, fully working condition - that is more then steal. This is excellent film scanner, many professional users were raving about one (unless drum quality is needed).
For that kind of money I wouldn't hesitate at all...

f@#K.........I just got a call from the seller and he already sold the scanner (an hour ago)....which sucks considering that I was the first to contact him and I was going to go pick it up at 3:00 today and I was waiting for him to give me directions to his house.. .....oh well, I guess it was not meant for me......
