Hi

I did not see this from a thread search.

But there is an "auction" site selling brand new caps for inner and outer mount S or contax lenses. Also body caps.

It' s nothing related to me. However, I found it very difficult to find a supplier of caps. I've emailed to the seller and response is very fast and answers questions.

The head bartender used to sell body caps and rear lens caps for Nikon Rangefinder S mount cameras and Contax RF cameras. Not sure if he still has them or not, don't see them on his website right now.

Best,
-Tim

Yes, he used to sell them....but have been out of stock for a long time, especially for internal mount lenses. No body caps. Tried the head bartender first...and then found this source.

For rear lenses caps in inner mount, the very best source is :

You may find aftermarket rear lenses caps in outer mount as well. US seller "heavystar" on the big auction site used to have some, but he seems to be out of stock now.

Body caps : I would rather leave my bodies without caps, instead of using some odd plastic made caps, prone to leave debris inside the lens chamber and into the focusing helical threads. Sooner or later a real metal Zeiss or Nikon body cap will pop out.

Just to avoid any confusion, I see the Head Bartender still has rear lens caps for the internal mount 50's and body caps available. The body caps have a "bayonet lug lock" plus a nice V for Voigtlander on them .... probably nicer than what you would get from your average Ebay seller

Hi MISH, can you point me to where he has those listed. I've bought them from him in the past but can't find the listing on his website now.

Thanks.

Best,

E-bay does feature some low volume new custom caps sometimes. I got rear caps that work on my Contax/Kiev lenses including Jupiter-8s and 50mm Sonnar (clear plastic) and a couple deep dish ones that work on my 35mm Biogon and 135mm f4 Sonnar. I also found a used bayonet mount cap for my Zeiss 50mm f1.8 Ultron.

There is an Etsy store that sells them. And I got one from Europe-based camera store. Both ones I purchased were great - for 50mms.

I emailed mr Gandy last month. At that time out of stock and no ETA for new shipments.

Contact him directly for any update.

The seller in the original post is Ben Couto, who has an online shop where he sells a variety of photography related items, https://coutocamera.com/

The caps referenced are designed by Simon Forster in the U.K., who sells them on eBay and his own shop, https://simonforsterphotographic.co.uk/ Simon sells to Europe while Ben sells to the Americas.

I haven't done business with either of them myself, but my needs these days are not exotic enough to require their services. I know about them solely through a podcast that Simon Forster hosts, the Classic Lenses Podcast, https://www.classiclensespodcast.com/

Sounds like they know what they are doing.....at least enough for me. Presumably, enough quality such that caps do not disintegrate. Thanks for the infor.

I would not even pay 1c for something plastic looking like a medicine pills bottle cap and which I can make myself.

For rear lenses caps in inner mount there is no better deal, for the present time, than those sold by "nobbysparrow" in Japan.

By the way, for the prewar collapsible Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 5cm f/2, the best rear cap is a Kodak film cannister cap from which you remove the internal lid with a blade.
