I appreciate this camera, because it is light and easy to use. Its sensor (D4) is excellent. Also because it looks like my old Nikon F3.
Some flower photos, but I am not a good photographer. The camera is far better than the observer.

Posted in scanner thread but thought it was Df related, Nikon coolscan v Nikon Df. This was with my 55mm f3.5 which cost me the grand sum of £8.

Another cheap lens for my Df 50mm series E pancake, quite small even next to a 50mm f2.

I don't post many images here at RFF for a few reasons the main one which is it just seems strange to me to put a slr or dslr image on a rf site but at any rate here is a recent one made with the Df and a new 50/1.8 Ais that has gotten some traction on flickr with 2500 views and an explore. Whatever, I just thought wow the sunrise and mist looks cool so I made the exposure.

The Queens image by jsrockit and contarama's misty sunrise scene are very nice!

Here's a macro with the Nikon Df. Used the 5.5cm Nippon Kogaku Micro-Nikkor to get fairly close.

In a perfect world I'd like to shoot side by side with Lynn with my D700 and a Zeiss prime for a direct comparison of the two systems and how the Zeiss renders compared to the heritage primes and how the D700 sensor stacks up against the DF.

If we lived a little closer? 😀

Hey Keith, I'm afraid you'd be a little disappointed by how your D700 sensor stacks up agains the Df. I shoot the D700 alongside the D4 all the time, and as much as I liked the D700 sensor before I got the D4, now the D700 is used as back up only because the image quality doesn't hold up, especially in low light and large blow-up. The D700's autofocus kicks the Df's butt though.

I'm still confused about the Df and manual focus lenses. I understand it works just fine with Ai and Ais lenses, but what about unconverted pre-Ai lenses? Thanks.

Like the Nikon F3 and a few other Nikon cameras, on the Nikon Df the little tab that engages and follows the aperture ring, can be folded back out of the way, so that non-AI lenses can be used.

I borrowed a Df a few years ago and used two non-AI lenses with it and all was good. I have since converted both of the lenses to AI. But the Df will work with non-AI Nikkors.

I refuse to convert my non Ai with anything other than a factory conversion kit. One has to be careful and remember that tab and what lens is being used. Then with non Ai one must remember to use to front wheel.

Factory conversion kits are getting almost impossible to find. If you know what you're doing, and are very careful, it's not a big deal to convert a non-AI to an AI lens. It does help to have a machine shop. But even with converted glass, or any AI or AIS lens on the Df, you do need to remember to set the camera to the lens you're using.

non-AI lenses work perfectly with the Df, other than some very early Nikkors (such as early serial # 10.5cm f2.5 P and 5cm f2 S) which have long lips sticking out over their rear mounts.

I think what contarama is referring to is the little wheel on front top right, one can set the aperture reading in the Df using the wheel to whatever the aperture is set on the non-AI lens. That way the- camera knows to meter correctly.

I've read all the posts on this thread, and kept an open mind. Having had three Nikon DSLR's starting with the D70 and ending with the D7100 I've grown to like the thumb wheels for aperture and shutter speed. However nowadays I'm shooting the XE-1 and film cameras for 90% of my photography, and the D7100 is used strictly for product shots for my wife's business.

The DF appears to be a good fit, control layout wise, for my kind of shooting. Although the price does seem high, considering all the inexpensive glass one can find for it, the price for the DF and a comprehensive stable of great lenses would be much less expensive than a D810 and a couple of high end zooms. Hell, I could cut out 35mm film altogether and shoot medium format for film and use the DF and Fuji for the rest of my work.

I bet you'd be happy Steve. The Df sensor is a sleeper. Just look.
