Nikon DF

So the form factor is what will work for it? Which makes sense. The only digital camera I've used is an m9, so forgive a stupid question....

How easy/impossible is it to set up a D800 like an F3?

Put an 105ai on it and use aperture priority say, and just use it simply?

I love my m9 because I use it identically to my m6.

But I do love that 105 ai lens on my two old nikon bodies and have wondered about using it digitally.

No translation for : Poids: 765g

F3: 762.1 g 😀

measured, with alkaline LR44 batteries and strap lugs, but without strap, without lens and without body cap. (Source KR, sorry 😉 )

F100 880g

FA 625g

f2 730g

D800 984.8g
D3 1,417.0g
D4 1,337.2 g

i just picked up a Canon 6D, 660g without battery 770g with! and i love the fact it has wi-fi and gps 😀. as blobby as the new dslrs are, there is a dial for aperture and a dial for shutter speed 😉

It's funny that the introduction of both programmed exposure and autofocus were presented as 'de-cluttering' the camera, and reducing distractions. And now, we welcome back both the 'clutter' and the 'distraction' as an alternative to the other accummulated grut that we find crammed into digital cameras just because it's possible.

The introduction of autofocus on the F4 was first seen by professional photographers as something they would never accept. Maybe the F3 AF had something to do with that, but pros used to their F3 looked down on the autofocus offered by the F4.

And the F3 had too much electronics for those who grew up with the F and F2.

What I do welcome on the DF (if the rumoured specs are anything to go by) is that it would offer dedicated controls for (and hence direct access to) aperture control, shutter speed and focus. Really all you need if you know the basics of exposure. I don't want to dive into menus and submenus to alter a setting.

is it really that hard on a newer "two-dial" DSLR to adjust the Aperture or Shutter Speed. what camera requires going into a submenu to change exposure?

I hope you are wrong. 🙁

Unfortunately, a 3,000 USD price tag will translate into a 3,000 Euro price tag. Given the dollar-euro exchange rate, it should be less, but photo equipment is considered a luxury product this side of the Atlantic and taxed at the highest possible rate.

I have no experience with a "newer two-dial DSLR", so I can't judge on that. What I would like to see though is a shutter speed dial on the top plate and an aperture ring on the lens, that you can adjust and preset without having to turn the camera on. Call me old fashioned, but that's the way I would like to see it.

I think the people who expect it to look precisely like some favorite old model, and are debating exactly which, are going to be very disappointed.

No, it's quite easy. The D700 is quite easy to set in aperture preferred or manual exposure mode and use it with an AI or AIS lens just like it's an FE or FM. No need for menus. Turn a wheel while holding a button to change the ISO (which you can see in the finder or on the top LCD, so also no menu needed). Set the display on the back to not come on unless you ask it to. So it's about as "pure" as you would like.

The only thing wrong with the D700 is that it's so big.

Ummm as of this post time stamp

3000 Euro = $4107 USD

I hope the price is lower a week or so.

I can't afford it, but, those that can, could spend $4k USD on other Nikon FF DSLRs without a movable Ai Pin for less.

If the rumoured price of 3,000 USD is anything to go by, it will sell for about 3,000 Euros in Europe and 3,000 USD in the United States. Not over 4,000 USD.
I read the original French article.

A strong touch of Irony with respect to the Leica model and all the special models, with out mentioning Leica.

Strong refence to D600/610 issues, the 7100 and 5300 being nothing more than updates.

AND a 3K euro price.....
Am holding on to my last 2.8 Nikon zooms just in case, but leaning more and more to just keeping the Fuji X-Pro + OM-D EM5 and FF be damned.

I was going by an earlier post by djonesii who posted 3000 Euro

But, yes, at $3000 USD, = 2207 Euro at today's rate

I haven't touched a digital Nikon, Canon, or Sony that makes me want to buy one.

I really like Olympus. I have an OM40, I'm keeping an eye out for an OM-2SP. My digital is an E-510. I have the wonderful 14-54 SWD II lens, and I picked up a Panny 25mm 1.4 for a good price knowing that I'll move to m43. So, obviously the E-M1 is high on my list. Well, it is pretty much the only thing on my list right now.

Except that I recently got a Nikon FA. And I'll be damned if it isn't a great handling camera. And now this Nikon is leaked that will look and feel like an FA (or FM2 or F3 or whatever the rumour is currently saying)... I kinda hope it does cost $3k, because then it is so far out of my price range it'll be a non-issue. If this thing is released and comes out at a similar price to the E-M1 I'm going to be rather conflicted...

If you like Olympus, try their Pen cameras Like the EP-3 there really
fun, and the EM-1 is really great.

Well the a7/7R was rumored in the three grand area until it was officially announced. I think rumors of high prices makes the officially announced price seem lower. Then everyone is going What a Deal..... Then they preorder. Trick or treat.
