Nikon DF

Looks like a D610 with a dedicated shutter speed dial and harder edges. Wow? I dont get it. Substantially fatter than the original Nikon FM too. What does this camera do any other Nikon DSLR cant?

Personally I like a camera that fills my hands so the size is fine by me ... if it's a bit lighter than the average DSLR that's good too.

It's fascinating because up until a few days ago it was all Sony Sony Sony!

This camera is far more interesting because it's from a highly recognised camera manufacturer ... who finally seems to be paying attention. 🙂
Ehm, just because it says Nikon and not Sony on the badge, it is far more interesting? I never had you down as such a Nikon fanboy....

Well, I'm also excited, I can't wait for the "Zero interest in the Nikon Fd - who's with me?" thread 🙄

Nikon fan boy!!! ... are you for real?

I just think it's great that Nikon have finally done something different ... whether it's a success or not, time will tell!

I think what he actually meant was this: it's getting interesting now, because this whole old-fashioned-camera-thing is apparently no longer a niche on the market, served by some small manufacturers. The trend is obviously big enough for the big players, like Nikon, to join in. 🙂

As far as I'm concerned, I do not really know what to think of this.. I believe most of us will do good by keeping the expectations down low. As somebody already said a few pages earlier, everyone expecting the camera to be a more or less exact copy of a beloved model from the film-era: You will be disappointed. After all, this will be closer to D600/D610/whatever than to all these 'Digital FM2'-pipedreams scattered across the net.

I agree. I don't get why people are so exiting about it?

Also it looks very big, nothing common with old Nikon like FM or F3.

It looks like we are just in a "pure" marketing thing and not a "pure" photography thing.

And i can tell i'm a Nikon guy...

This is marketing at its best: "How can we sway the last few remaining film users over to the digital realm?" Start making digital cameras that work like film cameras (like Fuji). It's a trick and this spells the beginning of the end of film!

granted it has a shutter speed dial on the top and the prism has sharper edges but thats it looks the same as any other Nikon dslr, its a nice/clever piece of marketing by nikon though😉

to me this is more than pure marketing.

most excited in

D4 sensor w no AA in a smaller and cheaper package
medium size (not too small or too big)
OVF instead of a nintendo-screen
full support of my F-gems

hopefully the OVF has decent magnification and 100% view too
nice design and finish quality and aperture dial is a plus

I don't see anything wrong with that. Good of Fuji and Nikon because in the end we are the people who benefit

So you describe what's different and then say it's the same? It's got the D4 sensor supposedly, so we need to compare it to that camera... doesn't look the same to me. Also, why offend people who prefer a shutter speed dial by saying it's marketing? Perhaps it's something we like... if I buy this, it will not be because Nikon tricked me, it'll be because they finally made something that feels better than the DSLR blobs we've had for the last 10 years.

I'm withholding judgement until the full reveal.... but I'm glad that other people on this thread are pointing out that so far the emperor has no clothes. Indeed, all I see is more of the same-old, same-old, with a shutter wheel on top (which, incidentally, iI find to be the least ergonomic feature of many old cameras).

Strange. I find the shutter speed dial one of the most ergonomic feature in many of my old cameras.

For those of you who like fiddling with electronic multi-button starship enterprise UI, there are a plethora of gadgets to play with to your hearts content. Just let us old fashioned types have our proper cameras back.

Exactly... I'm not sure why some want to turn this back into the same **** we've had for too many years now. You have your DSLR blobs... let us have one that works / feels the way we want it.

What did you expect? It's a digital Nikon from 2013. Did you really think you were going to get a mechanical camera with a sensor?

Let's criticise the camera here by all means because Nikon are big boys and they can handle it ... but criticism of what other people's choices and preferences may be really sucks and has little to do with fair and balanced discussion.

Why don't you guys just give it a chance, it might be something real nice. We haven't
really seen it yet, just from a blurred video. Why don't we all go out takes some
pictures and then the November 5th will be here and we'll all see it!

Last remaining film users? A niche too small to interest Nikon. IMHO, this is a response to Fuji and Sony.
