Nikon DF

Here's an enhanced still from that #4 video ... still vague but definitely 'very' interesting!

Looks like he was laid off by CNN to me. He's looking for work and a girlfriend. But that's long term. Short term, he's looking for a shower.

Hope it's weather proof.

🙂

Coz' with 1/2 the posters here desperate for his camera, he'd better not let go of it.

Maybe that's why the lack of showering? Not game to put it down to pick up a bar of soap?

I find focusing manually with my D700 impossible, and had to sell a quite nice 85mm less because it was so hard.

I'm really surprised by this. I manually focus my D700 in very poor light most of the time I'm using it and have always thought it was one of the strengths of the camera. When it becomes difficult I've got into the habit of using the green focus confirmation dot in the viewfinder ... once you instinctively know where it is it's very quick and extremely accurate.

Getting back on topic ... if this camera ticks all my boxes I think I'll be in. I have two beautiful ZF Zeiss lenses (35mm and 50mm) that like my D700 but would 'love' something like this. 🙂

John...I know...I'm just kidding you.

I know.

It seems like whenever there's an interesting new camera, it's somehow f*cked up by something else. It's as if the photographers and engineers get to the final green light for production, and some marketing wonk changes the final version.

I'm trying not to get my expectations up about the Nikon DF (or Df, or whatever) for exactly this reason. Exactly as you said...wouldn't it be great if Nikon didn't stumble this time?

I have a feeling it will be good enough this time. The price is the key really. I appears to be shaped right. The specs in even the lowest end Nikons are good enough for most.

For me a lot of it will depend on the viewfinder and sensor performance. The size and look of the camera seem OK ... I'm no Nikon purist! 😀

Which FF Nikon's have a bad VF and bad sensor performance?

None really over the last few years but the sensor needs to be at least as good as the D700 as does the finder for me to justify the expense.

I'm not into retro for the sake of retro ... the camera will need to perform and offer a weight and size advantage over the current full frame DSLRs.

Same here. I don't like the bulky design of my D700 and never use either the AF or the pesky-rattling built-in flash, but I like its sensor and VF to death (even if you think that's it's not a 100% VF).

So if the DF is way too expensive and has a "questionable" VF(EVF) design, and too pixels-rich a sensor for the Ai-S lenses to be performing nicely on it, I'll leave that poor lonely guy in Scotland ! 😀

The Guy in Scotland will be fine.

When he falls out of love with his Nikon there's always plenty of sheep around! 😀

It really is starting to look like an F3 body with an FE2/FM2 finder. I'd totally be cool with that. No pop-up flash, and full native support for MF Nikkor glass...and for the right price, I'm all in.

Time to start polishing up the X-Pro 1 and 5DmkII (and glass) for new owners...
