• The camera will meter even with non-AI lenses down to full aperture

It means that metering with the non-AI lenses is possible if you 1/flip the AI coupler up to mount the lens 2/focus wide open to ensure some accurate focusing 3/select the aperture 4/manually close the diaphragm to the selected value with the DOF tester 5/meter while keeping the DOF tester button depressed 6/shoot (through a rather dark VF is you are at apertures above f/5.6).

Exactly as you had to do it on the F2A/AS, FM, FE, F3.

No metering wide open possible with non-AI lenses, but for actually shooting wide open.

The big question for me is whether it may end up as a potential replacement for my back up D700 ...

I did not even consider the DF could become my primary work camera and with one of my two D700s as a backup. All I would have to do is sell the other. If the DF's dynamic range is at least one stop higher, this could be a good move for me.

Regardless, I will wait and see if people find the shutter does not spit oil all over the sensor.

Okay, I'm out. Doesn't appeal to me at all anymore. Just a clunky camera with way too much stuff crammed onto the top of it. I want simple, and my D4 is simpler than that.

If I look at the top-view and back-view and count the "physical controls" how they call it, than this is the most complicated control layout I've ever seen on an camera.
