Nikon DF

from gavin's link it looks like the shutter speed locking pin is only to get out of the 1/3 step, which is not a bad implementation.
Its the other 2 dials on the left that need the pin pressed for every change (note that the ISO speed locking pin is on the left corner and he's pressing it with his thumb, I missed it first time I saw it)

...Wanting to please everyone is the best way to please nobody at the end of the day...

Yes, this is very true in many aspect of our lives. And I'm as well (partially?) disappointed by what it seems they put on the market specially if I confront it with the rumors in the beginning, in the style of a "digital FM2". But rumors are rumors and it could be our fault to expect too much!
Now if I put myself in the place of the Nikon engineers and read all this thread (I have no time to re-read all again) to understand what potential clients desire there would be at least 4 or 5 or... different cameras: someone desire a camera without LCD, other complain for only 5 fps instead of 8 or 10, there is who complain for no video, other (me included) are disappointed for no split screen, other...I'm sure there would be many other specs desired.
My conclusion is to see this camera as a first attempt, the Leica 240 arrived after the m9, m8.2, m8 and when we go through the Leica forum there have been many complains about these models when they hit the market. Marketing decisions are not always easy and compromise between sales people and engineers are necessary in an industry, probably in a large scale production company like Nikon. Just my idea which could be wrong 🙂
I wait anyway to have one in my hands, at least to look at...

There is nothing like this camera out there. Nikon fans will go nuts and buy this in droves...

I see Nikon got all of your attention. 31 pages here on this thread and 2 other threads... They certainly achieved their objective with those ads.

I like this camera but I have to wait a few years(as usual) to be able to afford it.

For those who compare it to a re-skinned D600, I beg to differ as I don't see a flash on this camera.

+1

As I wrote above already, the Df is probably the first model of a new DSLR line from Nikon, I wouldn't be that surprised to see a DfH or Df2 coming soon with a lot of the Df shortcomings sorted out (remember how fast came some second versions of their DSLRs in the past few years).

Isn't it time to go to bed Keith ? 😛 😀

Probably ... it's been a long day and my idiot tolerance is at a minimum! 😛

It wasn't a good start to the evening when I got home and discovered I was interested in a 'poser's camera!' LOL 😀

I didn't read the whole thread Keith, just looked at the pictures, it was easier to handle.

Here is one from Nikon:

They are aiming this camera at those 90 million Nikkor owners.

I have a few Nikkors myself, as just about everyone on this forum.

Don't give them ideas!

They could also add a persistent warning beeping sound, like they did on the F-801 😀.

From an F-801 spec sheet : "Electronic beeper;-With power switch at iiii)), beeper sounds in the following cases: operation signals; (1) at end of film roll: (2) when film rewinding is complete; (3) during self-timer operation; alert signals; (1) for over- or underexposure and possible picture blur in PD, P, PH or A mode; (2) when lens is not set to the smallest aperture setting in PD, P, PH or S mode; (3) when non-DX-coded film, damaged film or film with an unacceptable DX code is loaded; (4) such as torn or damaged film during film advance".

Nikon, please don't !!

IMO it's the same old thing wrapped in a different cover. Mechanical dials are ok but image wise what's different from what the already have? Nikon had / has a chance innovate and why don't they do something new?

I was hoping a b&w camera only or modular inserts with film capability. How about a Fovion seansor or a new designed sensor. Instead of something new we got new cosmetics and old electronics. If I didn't have D800 equipment and an M9 it might be a nice camera for personal use. I don't see it so much for pro use as I do travel and personal use.

As to old manual focus lenses on it, from trying them on my D800 I can say most polls that are conscious about lens performance will be seriously disappointed. This is why I bought my M9 and new lenses. The manual focus lenses overall stunk on the D800.

Either the camera is a success and in consequence the price of second hand AI (s) lenses will rise considerably, or it is a downright sales failure and the market will get flooded with AI (s) lenses. Either way, mine will stay where they are.

Why ? If what has been written above re. the focusing screen is true, using AI(s) lenses with the Df won't be the least bit easier or more convenient than with the D700/600.

Because I think many have been holding on to their AIs lenses in the hope there would one day be a viable digital alternative from Nikon to use them on. Now, if they prove to be awkward to use (read focus) and don't give such good results on 16MP + sensors as has been hinted at in some posts, then maybe it's time for some to move on and possibly move away from Nikon altogether.

I still use them on my F3 and FM3a, so won't part with them any time soon.
