My two cents may be of some use here, but probably not. Here they are anyway:
I love astrophotography and a major shortfall with gear is that to shoot monochrome with 2" astronomy filters (LRGB et al.) on full frame sensors, you have to spend a few thousand on a CCD. The nice thing about CCD's is that they usually come with a filter wheel built-in, but you have to shoot with a computer. I would love to see a monochrome digital SP option! I don't think Canon will do it. They did the 60Da for astronomers, but all that took was replacing the visible filter on the sensor with a UV/IR cut filter (visible + H-alpha). I think Nikon could tap into an adequate market if they made a monochrome digital SP with the necessary new-age advancements. If they could make it a mirrorless digital, then you could use the inward-protruding F lenses that I'm sure exist as well as the flush newer F lenses. I would definitely invest in some F glass if a monochrome digital F-mount body came out!
Of course you can have a body converted by MaxMax in NJ to monochrome, but that's not quite the same and rather expensive for full frame ($4k-ish for a new mono'd 5D II; ~$2k to convert one you send them).
